An armed man in Colorado was recently involved in a dramatic chase with police following multiple carjackings.

The terrifying ordeal started on Wednesday after a Jefferson County deputy pulled a Ford Crown Victoria over. The occupants, a man and a female juvenile, sped off when the cop ran the man’s driver’s license.

The deputy did not give chase due to police policy and about a half hour later the couple allegedly carjacked a Subaru with several victims inside. They crashed that car and subsequently broke into a local home where a truck was stolen. After they also crashed that vehicle they took off on foot in a wooded area.

The couple separated during the chase and cops were able to arrest the female without incident. The male however, was reportedly armed with a rifle and a handgun and he wasn’t giving up easily. After trying to steal a couple of dump trucks without success, he broke into yet another home and stole the homeowner’s silver SUV but got stuck in the mud shortly thereafter near Interstate 70.

After making his way down onto the highway, video footage shows him pointing the rifle at passing drivers. A Jefferson County motorcycle deputy drew his own gun on the male suspect, forcing him to lay down his weapons but he continued to run.

The cop was able to chase him down and pin him to the ground with help from a Good Samaritan. Both the male and female remain in custody pending charges and residents are breathing a sigh of relief.
