The US State Department has called on Israeli authorities for a transparent and credible investigation and full accountability for any excessive use of force by Israeli security forces.

The statement comes on the back of reports that a US teenager was beaten while in Israeli custody in East Jerusalem

The victim is 15-year-old Tariq Khadair who is the cousin of Mohammed Abu Khdair the Palestinian teenager whose murder has triggered riots.

Police say the youth was in a group of people attacking officers. His family deny that.

Graphic stills of the teens face were published while a video from a mobile phone showing police beating a person on wasteland in East Jerusalem has been released.

While the victims face cannot be seen in the video footage Tariq Khadair’s father maintains it is his son.

The video was broadcast on Saturday by Palestine Today, a Beirut based TV channel which is funded by militant group Islamic Jihad.

Israeli officials say they are looking into the incident.
