PRESENTED BY NICOLA HUGHES

Brian Hogan is a son of a preacher man. During his childhood his father Larry Hogan spent his life singing and preaching the message of the Gospel but wouldn't let Brian listen to AC/DC. So instead Brian started listening to Black Sabbath, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Neil Young and grew his hair long. He was handed a bass at the age of 12, got drafted into his dad's Christian band and spent summers touring Europe. The seed was sown and a minstrel's life it was to be, intertwined with sojourns of animation and illustration (credits include the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

Since then with various bands notable musical highlights of his career include playing Glastonbury, Reading, Cambridge Folk Festival, the Electric Picnic (Ireland), Womad Festivals worldwide and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2008 Brian with Kila, highly regarded as Ireland's most innovative contemporary folk and new world artists, shared a number-one-hit alongside U2 and The Dubliners (The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew) and in 2010 an Oscar nomination for animated feature 'The Secret of Kells'. To date Brian has enjoyed playing with many talented artists including George Hamilton IV, Bono, U2, Ronnie Wood, Sinéad O Connor, Gavin Friday, The Dubliners, Paul Brady, Donal Lunny, Liam O Maonlaoí and Glenn Hansard.

After a decade of playing bass in the folk/trad world Brian took the bull by the horns and launched his solo project "Preachers Son" inspired by his childhood heroes. Grit-glam, blues tinged, swamp-rock 2010 saw Brian release his first independent album "Love Life and Limb" mixed by legendary Dave Bascombe (Placebo, Korn, Depeche Mode). And with a take-no-prisoners energy Preachers Son have played the length and breadth of Ireland and internationally Italy, UK, Canada and USA.

In 2012 Preachers Son released single 'Come On' produced and recorded by three-time Grammy Award winner Marc Urselli (Les Paul, Lou Reed) and to date Irish and UK radio play includes BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, Kerrang, Q, RTÉ 1, RTÉ 2, Nova and 98 FM amongst others. Brian has recently finished his second Preachers Son album '10 Stories Tall' recorded last year in Los Angeles with Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray, James Blunt). Release is scheduled for May 2014.

Festivals include: Electric Picnic 2013 & 2012, Volvo Ocean Race 2012, Le Cheile Festival 2012, Clonmel Junction Festival 2012, Vantastival 2011 & 2012, Festival of Fires 2012 & 2011, Canadian Music Week 2011 - featured in the CMW's top 50 "Buzz Bands", Ribbon Rhythm Festival 2011, Manchester Irish Festival 2011 (UK), The Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2011, Glasgowbury 2011, Green Village Festival 2011, Temple House Festival 2011 & 2010, Indie Week 2011 & 2010, Karel Music Expo 2010 (Italy), Indiependence Music Festival 2010, Éigse Carlow 2010 and Abbeyfest 2010.
