Italian model Samantha Scarlino was arrested months ago in connection with an alleged international cocaine trafficking ring that included two British women, Melissa Reid and Michaella McCollum, known as the Peru 2.

Peruvian police quoted by Fox News Latino said the model was seduced by an international drug cartel by with the promise of "tickets, luxury and power" and became part of a drug ring transporting cocaine across the Atlantic and into the European drug market.

Police believe that the 1,100 pounds (about 500 kilograms) of drug seized when Scarlino was arrested was destined for Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and France, Fox News Latino reported.

Il Corriere della Sera reported that Scarlino is accused of selling drugs in the Italian cities of Lecce, Milan, Rome and Genoa and transporting several deliveries of cash from Italy to gang bosses in Peru.

Police now believes she has ties to Reid and McCollum, who were caught three months earlier smuggling cocaine out of Peru at Lima airport.

Scarlino, who was detained in Milan after police raided her luxury hotel suite, was among 22 people arrested, four of them from Italian region Apulia.

Italian newspapers Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno reported that a 60-year-old man from Milan is believed to be the kingpin of the criminal organization that organized the smuggling.

According to Peruvian police, this is not the first time that drug traffickers have used gorgeous women to try to throw off Peruvian anti-drugs police.

McCollum and Reid are currently serving six-year sentences for drug trafficking in Peru's notorious and Virgen de Fatima jail, while Scarlino is being held in custody in Italy.
