Pentagon grounds F-35 fleet over engine issues

The Pentagon has suspended all test flights for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter after engine problems were discovered last week. A routine inspection Feb. 19 found an engine problem with an F35-A conventional takeoff test aircraft at Edwards Air Force Base, California. A boroscope inspection revealed a crack on a low pressure turbine blade in the F135 engine. The engine had a total of 700 operating hours, with 409 of those accrued in flight.
