The chief financier of the Taliban-linked Haqqan network, Nasiruddin Haqqani, was gunned down in an apparent assassination on Sunday night (November 10) in Islamabad, Pakistan. Nasiruddin Haqqani, known as the fund-raiser and intermediary for the militant group, was also a son of Jalaluddin Haqqani, who was a veteran guerrilla commander from southeast Afghanistan.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, however, officials believe it may have been ordered by Mullah Fazullah, who has been appointed to be the new head of of the Pakistani Taliban.

Haqqani was apparently shot dead by gunmen on a motorcycle while returning to his home from prayers at a mosque, according to McClatchy. According to CNN, a Pakistani intelligence official said Haqqani's bullet-riddled body was shot more than 20 times, and was found in the Bara Haku region on Sunday night.
