Gunmen try storming TV station in Donetsk

A television station in Donetsk, Ukraine, comes under fire after witnesses say unidentified gunmen tried storming their building.

Video taken during the attack shows the staff members running for cover.

One eyewitness said the gunmen opened fire without any warning.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) SERGIY CHORNIY, TV CENTER CAMERAMAN, SAYING:

"I was standing by the window and saw about five cars driving up. They immediately got out and immediately, without any word, opened fire. Well, they opened fire, pulled the gates open, started to come in through the gate. By then, when they started shooting and I moved away from the window and didn't see the rest."

Police guarding the station fired back before the gunmen fled.

Pro-Russian protesters have taken over several government buildings in the region, including the Donetsk regional administration building.

Many there are demanding a referendum vote on joining Russia.
