Three killed in Thailand as anti-government protests turn deadly

Anti-government protests in Thailand turned deadly on Saturday, when three people were killed and more than 60 injured in clashes between protesters and government supporters in Bangkok, according to CNN.
Demonstrators tried storm the Government House in Bangkok, the office of Prime Minister Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, at 10:45am. Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
The Bangkok Post reported about 3,000 protesters attempted to storm the Metropolitan Police Bureau where the prime minister was scheduled to give interviews.
Shinawatra managed to move her office to an "undisclosed location". CNN reported that the prime minister was not in the police building when protesters besieged the police compound.
Protesters also gathered outside television stations to force broadcasters to share their signals with a network controlled by protesters.
Some 3,000 soldiers were sent to assist police officers guarding key government buildings against occupation by the protesters.
The Thai army organised a meeting between prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Sunday night. Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha also attended the meeting. The army has remained neutral for the time being.
The parties failed to reach a consensus. Thaugsuban said it would be the last meeting with the prime minister until "a victory for the people". The opposition demanded the resignation of the prime minister and the establishment of a "people's council".
The protests are the biggest since 2010. It is feared that they only mark the beginning of prolonged instability in the country.
