South Chicago 20 year old shot by police, friends and family want answers

20 year old Raason Shaw was making a drug deal in the vacant lot when they drove up. Shaw noticed immediately and took off running. As he was running, he seemed to be holding on to something around his waist.

The chase wound its way 5 blocks south down to the area of 67th and Rhodes Avenue where things took a turn for the worse.

Shaw tried to hop over a fence in another yard, dropping something from his pants. Police say the object was a gun, and the officer had no choice but to fire in the name of protecting himself.

A large crowd gathered immediately after the shooting, prompting police to close off a 6 block area so they could conduct an investigation.

Officials say their independent review board will be investigating the incident, which is standard procedure on all police involved shootings.
