Drunk Japanese man accused of kicking victim into path of oncoming train

A 39-year-old Japanese man was arrested on Monday for attempted murder. He's accused of kicking a 30-year-old station attendant at JR Ueno Station onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train.

The man had gone out for drinks with his father. Both reportedly consumed a lot of alcohol. The two then went to the station, where his father accidentally hit a passenger on the platform, leading to an argument.

When a station attendant tried to break up the argument, the father seized him by the collar. The son was so drunk he thought the station attendant was picking on his father. The son rushed to help his father just as a train was pulling in to the platform. That's when the son allegedly kicked the station attendant down onto the tracks.

Fortunately, the train stopped in time and the attendant escaped with minor injuries to his right knee. The son was arrested and admitted to kicking the attendant onto the tracks. The father was also arrested on suspicion of assault. No one on the train was injured.
