A volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatra continued to spew ash and lava on Thursday (Jan 16), threatening surrounding villages and destroying crops.
People living around the 2,460-meter-high volcano have been forced to evacuate and seek refuge at shelters.
The volcano which has been dormant for four centuries has experienced frequent violent eruptions in recent months.
According to National Disaster Management Agency more than 26,000 people have evacuated and are staying in 39 temporary shelters provided by local government.
Local government data also said that nearly 10,460 hectares of farming area has been destroyed.
