Indonesia's Mt. Sinabung volcano continued to spew large amounts of ash into the sky on Thursday.

The Indonesian government raised the volcano's status on November 24 after observing increased activity. It had not been active for four centuries.

High volcanic activity is triggering earthquakes and tremors that produce a near continuous stream of ash from the crater.

More than 17,000 people evacuated following the initial eruption and are still at 31 temporary shelters in a nearby town, according to officials.
