EU Commission Chief Barosso calls on Ukrainian government to use restraint against protesters

The President of the European Commission says he has asked Ukraine’s president to restrain from using force against peaceful protesters.
Jose Manual Barroso’s comments came a day ahead of a visit by the EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to Ukraine
“I have asked him (Yanukovych) to receive the High Representative / Vice-President of the Commission Cathy Ashton who will be in Kiev tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, so she can also have a role in trying to bring some solutions to the very tense situation that Ukraine is living today”, he said.
Ashton will hold talks with government officials, opposition activists and civil society groups during her two day visit.
