Eight businesses in Montgomery County, Maryland were recently shut down.

All of the companies were listed as spas, however it was later determined they were allegedly brothels. An investigation was launched in September of 2011.

Law enforcement authorities started looking into the businesses after a major increase in online advertisements for massage parlors began popping up on adult websites. Residents also issued formal complaints, pointing the finger at the suspicious establishments.

Locals reported witnessing mattresses being brought into one of the spas along with an abundance of men going in and out. There was also an allegation that teenage girls, as young as 14 were working at a salon.

While the suspects arrested were not named, several were charged with providing massage therapy without a license. Others are facing legal repercussions regarding violations of use and occupancy permits.

The businesses closed from the investigation include Massage Spring Spa, Green Apple Massage, Soothing Care Spa, Traditional Wellness, Massage Center, L.A. Nails, Best Spa and Sunshine Day Spa. Anyone who suspects an operating illegal massage parlor is urged to tip off police.
