Massive landslide forces emergency evacuation of Whidbey Island: Residents of 34 homes were forced to evacuate Whidbey Island, off the coast of Washington, after a massive landslide slid into the water early on Wednesday.

The landslide was roughly 400 to 500 yards across and dropped 600 to 700 yards down into the ocean. Debris wiped out roads and destroyed numerous homes below, but fortunately no one was hurt. The landslide also cut off electrical and water supplies to residences in the area. The cause of the landslide is still under investigation.
