The founder and leader of MQM Mr Altaf Hussain has expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of lives and properties in the sectarian riot in Rawalpindi on Ashura.
In a statement he said, “ The Day of Ashura gives the message of sacrifice and patience. It is the responsibility of all sects and schools of thoughts to maintain peace and harmony on this day. It is deplorable that our enemies have once again succeeded in igniting a sectarian strife."
Mr. Hussain has made an appeal to people across Pakistan especially people of Rawalpindi and its surrounding areas for restraint and patience and not to respond to provocation. He has urged to maintain sectarian harmony at all cost.
Mr. Hussain has urged people to keep an eye on conspirators who flare up sectarian violence over petty differences. People who hatch plans to ignite sectarian strife cannot be well-wishers of Ummah. They cannot be called Muslims.
Mr. Hussain said that the tragic incident of Rawalpindi has made him sad. He made an appeal to them in the name of the Prophet and his family to not to stoke sectarian tensions and help in easing tensions between the sects. He urged them to forgive each other and swear not to fight again. He made an appeal to scholars and elders of both sects to come forward and work to stop sectarian violence. He added that they should work for sectarian harmony and pan-Islamism.
