Typhoon survivors desperate for escape or assistance

Desperate survivors in Tacloban City plead with aid teams to board a plane out.

In one of the hardest hit regions after Super Typhoon Haiyan swept through nearly a week ago- injured, sick and elderly people have the priority. Others are turned away.

Residents who remain do their best to survive.

Here people barter and trade the goods they have for the goods they need.

This person is looking to trade bacon and hotdogs for rice.

The official death toll from the storm stands at 2357- but aid workers expect that number to rise.

Besides getting supplies to those who survived the storm, dealing with those who didn't is proving a massive task.

Local firemen have begun placing bodies in a mass grave, although it will take days or even weeks to fill.

A Catholic mass will be held at the site later.
