Fighting to the finish in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Congolese forces unleash their fire power against M23 rebels as they seek to end a 20-month revolt.

Now there are hopes for peace as the army captures the last hilltop stronghold of the rebels near the border with Rwanda and Uganda.

After the fight the M23 announced it would disarm and pursue political talks.

U.S. Envoy to the region Russ Feingold welcomes the news.

"In a region that has suffered so much this is certainly a significant positive step in the right direction."

The M23 is just the latest manifestation of simmering anger with Kinshasa among ethnic Tutsis in eastern Congo.

The real test will be whether the government and rebels can reach a lasting political deal.

The Congolese army will take up arms again if necessary.
