A policeman was arrested Monday in connection with Friday's murder of the chief administrator of Khon Kaen Provincial Administration Organisation.
According to the Bangkok Post, Veerasak Chamnanpol, 37, was stopped at a checkpoint in Chiang Yuen district of Maha Sarakham, Thailand, as he was driving home from Sakon Nakhon with his family.
Weerasak was then taken to chief administrator Suchart Kothum's house amid tight security for a re-enactment.
The crime happened on Friday morning as soon as Suchart left his house. He had just driven past the gate of his house when a black pickup truck with three men inside blocked his way, witnesses and the victim's family said, according to the Bangkok Post.
Two men and Suchart got out of their cars and started talking and arguing. Police suspect the victim tried to defend himself and probably fought with the killers before he was shot once in the head and several times in the arms, according to reports.
One of the alleged killers has been identified as Pol Lt Col Somjit Kaemprom who is still at large. The two other suspects have not yet been identified.
According to the Bangkok Post, Veerasak was being held at Muang Khon Kaen police station and had been denied bail.
