The Sandy Hook elementary school is being torn down
  • 11 years ago
Construction trucks head into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the site where 20 young children and six adults were shot to death last

December. Now the building is coming down.

The town required workers handling the tear down to sign agreements banning them from discussing any aspect of the work.

Town officials hope the demolition will be complete by the one-year anniversary of the attack on December 14.

The massacre by 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza, was one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. The attack led to stricter gun laws in Connecticut and New York.

Now there are mixed feelings about the school coming down.

(SOUNDBITE) (English)RESIDENT SAYING:

"I think it's unnecessary to tear down the building. I think you put up a nice memorial, but to take a perfectly good building and tear it down... But I guess if my child was killed there, I'd have to think twice. Some of my friends, it was a tough day for them. T
