David Cage and the team at Quantic Dream are back, once again shaking the very definiton of video games with another interactive drama. Beyond: Two Souls is in the spirit of Heavy Rain, but it very much has its own spirit, as well. And that spirit is named Aiden. Beyond: Two Souls tells the story of Jodie, a girl played by actress Ellen Page. She was born with Aiden attached to her like an invisible arm, and she can use this poltergeist to do amazing—and often terrifying—things. Beyond: Two Souls is heavily driven by its story, and like Heavy Rain, has little gameplay in the traditional sense. Players mostly interact with the game through quick-time events, pressing buttons when prompted to progress the story and affect the plot. Beyond: Two Souls uses tension beautifully, however, and makes even the most trivial actions feel momentous in the context of the story. Ellen Page is joined by actor Willem Dafoe, who give performances far better than you'd expect from video games. Beyond: Two Souls is a single-player interactive movie/game...thing. This video review features video gameplay footage of Beyond: Two Souls for the PlayStation 3 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
