Newborn baby found alive in drain in Spain after being abandoned by mother 40 hours earlier

A two-day old baby was found alive in a drain in Spain where its mother had abandoned it 40 hours earlier. The newborn baby still had its umbilical cord attached when police found it after a neighbour had reported an "animal crying" from beneath the manhole. The baby suffered only a broken arm and other non-lifethreatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The 26-year-old mother was arrested in hospital where she had checked herself in two days earlier, claiming she had suffered a miscarriage.

The mother confessed to her crime and said she had abandoned the child because she could not afford an abortion. This video reimagines the crime.
