A first date went horrifically wrong for a woman in New York. 35-year-old Jennifer Rosoff fell to her death after plummeting 17 stories from her apartment building in Manhattan.

According to reports, she had been on a date with a man, when she stepped outside to have a cigarette at a little before 1 in the morning. It’s believed she may have sat on the railing or leaned on it, causing the unstable balcony to give way.

Her date had accompanied her outside. He advised her to be more careful, as he was worried about her being so close to the edge, however she insisted she had done it many times before. Within moments of that conversation, Rosoff fell backwards, plummeting 140 feet downwards.

She landed on construction scaffolding near the base of the building. The apartment structure in question was built prior to World War II.

The Department of Buildings issued a warning after Rosoff's death, banning the building’s other residents from using their balconies calling them “imminently perilous to life” . Meanwhile Rosoff’s friends and family are left devastated.
