Police disperse protesters in Istanbul

Turkish police have moved in to disperse hundreds of protesters, who had gathered in and around Istanbul's landmark Taskim Square.

They were trying to get into the nearby Gezi Park. A plan to redevelop the area recently sparked nationwide anti-government protests.

Police used tear gas and water cannon in a bid to break up the crowds.
