President Bashar al-Assad's forces launched a major offensive on the rebel stronghold, according to this video posted to a social media website whose content Reuters cannot indepedently verify.
Activists say jets and tanks pounded the area. The ground and air attacks are part of the military's plan to secure a supply route between the capital and cities along the Mediterranean. There were no immediate details on casualties
