Too many tragic accidents seem to take place around train tracks.

Recently, a 25-year-old man was killed after falling asleep on railroad tracks.

A train, venturing from Louisiana to Georgia was crossing over the tracks between South 11th Street and Crescent Drive of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. That’s where the male was struck, as the train was unable to stop in time.

The train was comprised of two locomotives and 85 freight cars. Police believed it was traveling at the appropriate speed for the area.

The average freight train traveling at 55 miles per hour requires at least one to 1 and a quarter miles to fully stop and that’s after the emergency brake has been fully applied.

The victim had numerous injuries to his legs, hands and head. Although an autopsy will be conducted as part of normal procedure, no foul play is suspected.

A toxicology test is also scheduled, however no evidence of alcohol consumption was found at the scene.
