SHOWS: A day after meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, Myanmar President Thein Sein met with U.S. lawmakers in Washington on Tuesday morning (May 21).
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell greeted the president of Myanmar as he arrived for the Capitol Hill meeting.
Senators Ben Cardin, Kelly Ayotte and John McCain also participated in the meeting as well as members of the Myanmar delegation.
On Monday, Obama met with President Thein Sein and urged him to halt violence against a Muslim minority but praised economic and political reforms in the formerly pariah nation that is emerging as a U.S. ally in China's backyard.
During the first visit to the White House in 47 years by a leader of the Southeast Asian nation, Obama called for an end to the killings of Rohingya Muslims in western Myanmar's Rakhine state.
