00:30Welcome, everyone, to SummerSlam.

00:35They are jammed back to the Raptors at the Cotton Little Airlines Arena.

00:45Welcome up again, everyone.

00:52Ben Sarban here along with good old JR and, of course, Jerry the King Lawler.

00:56And who knows what's gonna happen here tonight, JR.

00:58It's a big night for the Heart Foundation, there's no doubt about that.

01:01With three titles on the line, I got a gut feeling we're gonna see gold change hands

01:07right here tonight at SummerSlam.

01:08And what about you, King?

01:09Well, you know Stone Cold Steve Austin said it, he'll either kick it or kiss it.

01:14And tonight when that match is over, Owen Hart is gonna get the moon in the world,

01:18and Stone Cold will pucker up.

01:20There comes Hunter Hurst Hemsley.

01:24Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is the Steel Cage Match.

01:30The only way to win this contest is by exiting through the door and

01:36up to the floor, or climbing up over the top and

01:40up to the floor with O'Bee touching the floor.

01:44And now, here are the participants, first accompanied by China, from British

01:51Connecticut, weighing 246 pounds, the 1997 King of the Ring, Hunter Hurst Hemsley.

02:04And Hunter Hurst Hemsley entering that awesome sight of steel girders.

02:10Hunter Hurst Hemsley now officially inside the cage.

02:15Well, ladies and gentlemen, the rivalry between Hunter Hurst Hemsley and

02:18Mankind has been certainly documented, China's been deeply involved in the situation.

02:23As a matter of fact, we'd like to take you back to our last outing on pay-per-view.

02:26It was in Calgary, Hemsley and Mankind fighting all the way outside.

02:31The ring could not contain them.

02:33And then this past Monday on Raw, we see Mankind impersonating a cameraman.

02:39And Mankind taking over on Hunter Hurst Hemsley until Chyna got involved.

02:45But one thing's for sure, gentlemen, I don't think Chyna will be a factor tonight

02:49because of the steel cage, and there she is, the bodyguard of Hunter Hurst Hemsley.

02:57Checking things out and look at Hunter, way up in the top.

03:00And that might be the way that Hunter Hurst Hemsley escapes this cage here tonight.

03:04To the moment, weighing 287 pounds, Mankind.

03:14Mankind, one of the most tormented souls ever, perhaps, in the World Wrestling Federation.

03:24Some call him demented, but this is his type of a match, JR.

03:28Right down his alley, Mankind in his former career of Cactus Jack competed on bits and

03:33nails in rings surrounded by barbed wire.

03:38So to say that Mankind will be intimidated by the steel would be a gross understatement.

03:43But to say that Mr. Hemsley is going to be comfortable inside the confines of solid steel,

03:48I think would be a misnomer as well.

03:51Well, I'd like to say that this match fits most of these fans here in New Jersey,

03:55where the most often heard words are, you have the right to remain silent, fits them to a tee too.

04:01Wait a minute, now we're talking about the Garden State.

04:04And rumor has it that the governor of the great state of New Jersey, Governor Christy Todd Whitman,

04:09is going to join us live here at SummerSlam.

04:13But Mankind right now contemplating the matchup with Hunter Hearst Helmsley inside the steel cage.

04:21Jam packed, sold out to the rafters, ladies and gentlemen, it's SummerSlam.

04:26The first time the WWF was in this great arena, it was called the Meadowlands.

04:30It was 1981, and in the main event, Bruno Sammartino defeated George the Animal Steel.

04:36So the 16 year legacy of the WWF in this very facility has been very well documented over the years.

04:43All right, once that door is closed, the match is on.

04:46It's closed and locked, China looks on, and Mankind will now lock it up with Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

04:52It's clear as to the winner, the first man out of the cage is victorious by going through the door.

04:57Hunter just made me out now.

04:59Hemsley trying to kick his way out of the door.

05:06That's a smart move.

05:08Hemsley wasting no time in his efforts to escape as Mankind now pulls him right back into the ring.

05:16And of course the under measure of escape is over the top of the cage.

05:20Well, don't say, when you say efforts to escape, don't try to make it appear that Hunter is afraid of Mankind.

05:26That's certainly not the case.

05:27Is that right?

05:28Mankind, quite the aggressor as you would suspect in this type of a matchup.

05:33Well, Mankind made his first SummerSlam appearance last year,

05:37defeated The Undertaker in the infamous Boiler Room Brawl.

05:40Wow.

05:41And again, Hunter trying to go over the top.

05:44And Mankind with two handfuls of his belt is not about to allow Hunter to go over.

05:49You can either say that Helmsley is smart, trying to get out as quickly as he can.

05:53Or just maybe, just maybe, King, Helmsley is a little bit reluctant to lock inside a steel cage with an animal like Mankind.

06:01No way, Ross, takes a king to know a king.

06:03Helmsley is the king of the ring, and I can tell you right now, no way is he afraid of Mankind.

06:09Nonetheless, it's matches like these who have, my goodness, look at this.

06:13It's a match of this type that has basically disfigured Mankind.

06:18And tonight, we could see the beginning of that with Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

06:22Helmsley may, yeah, Helmsley could end up looking like Mankind.

06:25Look at Mankind, right hands right to the face, beating Helmsley down in the corner.

06:30And where's the referee on the outside, where he should be in this type of a match?

06:34No holes barred in this type match, look out, here we go.

06:37Little cactus jack, bang, bang there for Mankind.

06:44And where the referee on the outside of the ring, ladies and gentlemen,

06:47it will allow these two athletes to do whatever they are man enough to do.

06:52There are no disqualifications.

06:55Certainly anything literally goes in this contest.

07:01Mankind setting up.

07:03Boy, did he ever plant him squarely in the middle of the ring.

07:09Mankind, better known, well, not better known as, but

07:11certainly known as Mick Foley grew up not all that far.

07:16Grew up here in the tri-state area out on Long Island.

07:20Well, that explains what's wrong with him.

07:36I think Chyna took it about herself to shut that cage door.

07:39Chyna is not supposed to be the guardian of the door that is left to the official.

07:44And Mankind about ready to plant the mandible- Look out!

07:47There it is, and finally into the mouth of Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

07:52And Chyna, look at this, coming up, and Chyna choking Mankind.

07:59Chyna saving Helmsley from being rendered unconscious.

08:03And look at her, and there's not a darn thing that the referee can do about it.

08:07As we mentioned, this is a no disqualification steel cage match.

08:11Yeah, I love it!

08:12Nonetheless, you would think that the cage itself would keep Chyna away from

08:17interfering in the matchup, and that has not occurred.

08:19That's what the cage is designed to do.

08:21Yeah, but look at Chyna's biceps.

08:23Look at those lats.

08:24I just get the feeling that she wanted to get in that cage.

08:27She could bend those steel bars.

08:28Striking the cage bars, Mankind, and Mankind spun around, Mankind won't close up.

08:35The alter egos of Mick Foley, here we go now, Chyna go up.

08:46And going up, wait a minute, Chyna.

08:51I don't believe this, not a suplex to the top of the cage.

09:18Mankind suplexed from the top of the cage by Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

09:27And Mankind is barely moving.

09:30This is the opportunity for Helmsley- Into the door!

10:04against his arch rival, Mankind.

10:12And certainly the steel will be very unforgiving in this contest.

10:16I don't blame Hunter.

10:17You know what?

10:17Mankind deserves this for the treatment he's given to Chyna.

10:23He's threatened to hit her.

10:25That is definitely not the case.

10:29Mankind attempting to compete in this matchup in Chyna.

10:33You're telling me that Mankind didn't threaten Chyna?

11:20And Hunter Hearst Helmsley now systematically continuing to perhaps

11:25disfigure that less than handsome face, Mankind.

11:32I think he looks bad with that mask on.

11:33Without that mask, he looks like Charles Manson, only he lacks the compassion.

11:42Repeatedly, that's what he is doing to Mankind.

11:45Mankind getting his brain scrambled.

11:47Right.

11:48Thanks to Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and that's Steel Cage.

11:50And that's the first time we've ever seen Chyna show any emotions.

11:54She was almost smiling.

11:55That's a look of satisfaction, sheer satisfaction.

12:00This is only the third cage match in SummerSlam history.

12:04Bret Hart won the last one in 1994.

12:07And it was against, ironically enough, his brother Owen.

12:10And look at this, nothing's gonna stop Hunter from going out now.

12:13Hunter Hearst Helmsley's gonna win this thing.

12:15Mankind's up, is he up in time?

12:18Diving finally has an ankle.

12:19Mankind handing on to the, here we go, Mankind climbing the cage in a right.

12:26Mankind better be careful, he'll knock Helmsley out of the cage.

12:33Mankind grabbing Helmsley's left leg, and Helmsley hanging by a leg now.

12:37He can't really break his leg.

12:39Mankind with Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Mankind trying to drag Helmsley back into the ring.

12:47And here comes Helmsley now.

12:52Mankind just by, look at that, just by an ankle.

12:58Trying to get his hand and pull him down.

13:01Mankind has Helmsley hooked now, he'll again try to bring him back into the ring.

13:10And Hunter Hearst Helmsley, on the receiving end of the hard right hand.

13:19The succession of it now, Mankind with an opportunity to take over.

13:22That's exactly what he's doing on Mr. Helmsley.

13:25Hunter Hearst Helmsley from nearby Greenwich, Connecticut.

13:28And certainly, certainly that's no way to treat a king.

13:38This cage or this cage match rolls apart from the environs of Greenwich, Connecticut.

13:45Helmsley may have had a wrestling tutor while growing up in Greenwich,

13:49in Fairfield County in Connecticut next to Frank and Kathie Lee.

13:52But the bottom line here is, I don't think anything in his life has ever prepared him

13:57for a man like Mankind- Look at that.

13:58Come on.

13:59What about a woman like Chyna?

14:01Get out of the match, come on.

14:02Again, the purpose of this cage was to keep Chyna away from interfering in this matchup.

14:08We saw footage that JR caught, in which we have seen Chyna repeatedly interfere in all kinds of matches.

14:16Hard inverted atomic drop by Helmsley.

14:19Chyna, the 200 pound female bodyguard of Helmsley.

14:24Looking on here, and Mankind with a close line.

14:28Mankind, hoping to defeat Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

14:38Mankind setting up Helmsley for the ride and, uh-oh, no, no.

14:42Just a bit of a hesitation as Helmsley's body struck the steel, slowed him down, actually.

14:47And, uh, let's do his, uh, favor as Hunter Hearst Helmsley now.

14:53Go ahead and finish him off.

14:56All right, here we go, and, uh, a block.

14:59Helmsley, trying to suplex, there we go, and look at that.

15:04Helmsley hanging upside down, Mankind better watch himself, here we go, Mankind, yes!

15:11Trying to do something!

15:21Hunter Hearst Helmsley must mount an offense, and

15:28it doesn't look too good for him, Helms, into the cage.

15:31Helmsley may be second guessing himself now that Mankind has mounted some offense,

15:37because Helmsley obviously had the opportunity early to step out of the cage

15:42and win this thing, but perhaps ego got the better of it.

15:46Hunter Hearst Helmsley must do something to reverse what's going on in the ring now.

15:52He is, he is being ripped from pillar to post by Mankind.

15:58And Mankind building support from this capacity crowd.

16:01They're sick!

16:03One thing these two men have in common, they were both trained by legendary

16:07WWF competitors, Helmsley by Killer Kowalski, and of course Mankind by Dominic DiNucci.

16:13And look out, wow!

16:17A backdrop right into the steel cage.

16:19How do you protect yourself- You don't.

16:22When your body is just being pummeled and thrown into steel.

16:27Hunter Hearst Helmsley, who has taken a tremendous

16:33beating at the hands of Mankind.

16:35Of course, Mankind has almost been ground down to nothing.

16:39But somehow, Mankind continues to get up.

16:42Come on, try to help me! Mankind crawling over.

16:43Mankind, hopefully, will get there in time, as Mankind there now.

16:48Should be able to get to Helmsley and prevent him from going over the top.

16:51They're both on the top rope.

16:52Whoever gets knocked off of that top rope could lose the match.

16:57Into the steel, and Hunter Hearst does.

17:04Mankind with about a 40 pound weight advantage.

17:12And that weight advantage certainly coming into play there in the exchange of right hands.

17:16Uh-oh, look at this.

17:20Hunter Hearst does better get himself out of there.

17:24This is bad, this is bad.

17:25He better get out of there quickly, Helmsley's trapped.

17:28Now Mankind, all he has to do is go through the door.

17:31He's in there, China.

17:33All Mankind has to do is go through the door.

17:35And he's gonna win this thing by default.

17:37The official wants the door open.

17:40China grabbing that door right into the top of the head of Mankind.

17:49And the referee face first into the steel steps.

17:55Hey, wait a minute, what's this?

17:59China has gone nuts.

18:01China with a chair.

18:03We all speculated just what China would do to make sure her man wins the matchup.

18:09China just threw a chair into the ring.

18:13Hamsley blocking the door.

18:19Brother of Mankind blocking the door, going now to, no, no, no.

18:22Pedigree, maybe, pedigree on a steel chair.

18:25It could be, it could very well be a pedigree.

18:28China looking on, China, no.

18:32The back of Hamsley's head hit the chair.

18:34Look out.

18:35No, no, no, no, no, he's in China.

18:46The Amazon herself found out just exactly what the steel tastes like.

18:51Disqualifying.

18:52And wait a minute, yeah.

19:02And Hunter Hearst, Helmsley giving it their all.

19:07And now, China recuperating as Mankind inches his way over to the side of the cage.

19:17Can Mankind make it up and out?

19:24Helmsley starting to stir.

19:31And China coming into the ring, don't tell me she's gonna prevent Mankind.

19:36She's in the cage, she's in the cage.

19:39No, get Mankind.

19:40She's trying to.

19:41She's trying to drag Helmsley.

19:46And Mankind.

19:51And then, man, nothing's gonna stop him.

19:53Nothing's gonna stop him.

19:59He just took off that leather mask.

22:40It's Dude's Love and Mankind's clothing.

22:45He's a herding puppy, no doubt about that.

22:57But Dude's Love, finally, ladies and gentlemen,

23:01did what he wanted to do as a 14-year-old from Long Island.

23:06And boy, did he ever do something to the next Superfly, Jimmy Snuka proud.

23:10He practiced jumping off the top of his ass for this moment.
