(I already watched 1-8, so I'm only reacting to the new episodes.)

00:00Hello, this is E-Soup, aka Specific Soup. It is a very exciting day today. Today, I am starting to react to Justice in the Dark.
00:13However, I'm just going to react to the new episodes, because I already saw the original episodes 1 through 8.
00:21You know, the ones that came out, and then we thought it was cancelled forever, and we were never going to get the rest of the show.
00:26Thank you, Japan. Thank you, WowWow. That's the broadcaster that's showing the show now.
00:32I just have been really excited for the new episodes of this show to come out, and I decided I really wanted to react to the new episodes,
00:41even though it's a little awkward starting at episode 9 and not episode 1.
00:46I know that you're not going to be able to make the journey with me from episode 1 through 8 to see how I reacted initially,
00:53because when I watched the first episodes, I didn't know this was something I wanted to do.
00:59I'm pretty sure around the time I started watching Justice in the Dark, it was like, I got interested in watching it,
01:06and shortly after that, the news came out that the new episodes would actually be released.
01:12So thankfully, I got to watch the original episodes without that feeling of like,
01:17oh, this is it. There's nothing else. I'm very blessed in that regard. I picked a perfect time to start watching the show.
01:23It just didn't occur to me at the time to record reactions of those first episodes,
01:28and now I kind of regret that, but there's no reason why we can't just jump in and start in the middle.
01:35We're not even in the middle. We're in the early, early middle.
01:37I was just watching Brittany from Gay Watch's original reactions to the first eight episodes.
01:45I think she's been doing like a re-reaction or a re-watch recently, but I watched her original reactions,
01:52and I just watched the ones for 7 and 8, which was very fun,
01:57and it kind of helped me refresh on what's been going on with the current arc, which is the Lolita arc.
02:04Unfortunately, this is where we're at right now.
02:06And one thing is, Brittany said at the end of the video for episode 8,
02:10she was talking about, you know, if the episodes are- the ones after 8 were ever going to come out,
02:17and she was like, you know, we don't know. It's up in the air. We don't know if they're ever going to come out.
02:21But maybe you're sitting here in the future with all the episodes out, you know,
02:25just about to switch over and watch episode 9 after this.
02:29And that's exactly what I'm about to do.
02:31I was watching, and I was like, yeah, that's me right now.
02:34So, I'm so excited for this.
02:37Without further ado, this is episode 9 of Justice in the Dark.
02:42It's fun seeing the Japanese next to the names.
02:48I feel like this intro is a no-skip, because it gets you into the vibe of the show.
02:53Plus, it's not too long, and it doesn't spoil anything.
02:59Other C-dramas, take note. Please.
03:02Oh my gosh. We're here. We're finally here.
03:04It's so interesting with the APATH thing, because it's like, when people are fearing APATH crimes,
03:18it's like, I mean, a murder is a murder.
03:21Some of these crimes are like, regardless of if the person who did them is an APATH or not,
03:27they have the same result.
03:28I guess the fear is simply that there's going to be more of them, because having APATH around
03:34will just increase the amount of people who are, like, willing to do those kinds of crimes.
03:39So, I kind of get it, but it- part of me is just like, I mean, yeah, like, a killer is a killer.
03:45Like, a murder is a murder.
03:47There's so many other reasons that someone could kill someone.
03:50Now, it's interesting, because this guy, when they've investigated the current suspect, whose name I forget,
03:56but I'm pretty sure he is doing- he is playing a substantial role in all of this,
04:01and he's very suspicious, and he gives this sort of, like, unemotional, detached vibe in interrogations,
04:08but they did a genetic screening on him, and, like, he's not an APATH.
04:12So, like, I don't know what that means.
04:14Obviously, APATH is, like, not a real thing anyway,
04:17so it can't totally be compared to, like, real-life mental illnesses,
04:22but it's still just, like, it feels a little bit weird and shoehorned in occasionally,
04:28but that's because it is.
04:29The whole APATH thing was simply invented for the show and is not in the original source material,
04:34because of the ways that the show had to be censored,
04:37because they don't want to release things that seem to show too much violent crime
04:44or too much seedy stuff happening in China,
04:47and if there is stuff like that happening, there has to be, like, a reason for it.
04:51Hence the APATH thing being invented.
04:54But anyway, it's just- it's just funny being like,
04:56oh my god, more APATH crime.
04:58These things would be happening whether there were APATHs or not.
05:04Hello? We are so back.
05:06Oh, this sucks.
05:25Oh, four years ago.
05:31Oh, four years ago.
05:31Oh, four years ago.
06:01Oh, she only died two months ago.
06:25Mmm.
06:26And she doesn't want to say anything.
06:28She was not talking at the end of the last episode.
06:37Nope.
06:42Of course, Pei Su is gonna come in and question her,
06:47and he's gonna figure out exactly how.
06:49Because he's a student now.
07:05Uh-huh.
07:06It's- it's- it's- it's Pei Su.
07:14See, okay, hold on.
07:15Because I'm really glad that I just watched Brittany's reactions
07:19to the previous two episodes,
07:21because there are things that I had forgotten.
07:23And one thing is, at the end, Pei Su is like,
07:26I'm gonna be a student.
07:28I'm gonna pursue my master's in, like, criminal psychology,
07:31and, you know, following this special niche with regard to A-Paths.
07:35And I realized, oh, he's been influenced by, uh, Luo- Luo Wei Zhao.
07:42They have different names between the book and the show,
07:45and I'm reading the book now, so I might get them confused sometimes.
07:49But I think in the show it's Wei Zhao.
07:51So Luo Wei Zhao is always like,
07:53you're not doing anything with your life.
07:56Like, you have to, you know,
07:57find some motivation and find some goal.
08:01And I think that influenced him to take these classes.
08:06Just, mmm.
08:08Delicious.
08:15What a sentence!
08:16And that's why he gets to be there and question them.
08:25Go there.
08:28Question the girl.
08:30Rather.
08:43He's gonna, he's gonna be so good at this.
08:46I don't know what he's gonna do, but...
08:54Where's the girl?
09:10Because she just sat there and ate?
09:14Oh, what is he doing?
09:16What BlackBerry phone is that?
09:26He's gonna pique her interest by the way he's acting.
09:29I don't know how you'd get the allowance for a master's student in criminal psychology
09:45to question a suspect.
09:47Like, for real.
09:48Especially in an important case like this.
09:50But, you know, we'll suspend our disbelief.
09:53Especially because Pei Su has been involved in their stuff already.
09:56And he wasn't...
09:57a student up till now.
09:59He's always like, you're not working.
10:25He's gonna do it.
10:26He's not working.
10:27He went to the auditorium for a master's student.
10:33He's a woman.
10:33He's a doctor.
10:34I like my master's student.
10:35He's a man.
10:36I think he's got to pay me for a second.
10:37He gets a little more cash relief.
10:38He's a doctor.
10:38He gets an audience.
10:39And he doesn't buy a mom's wallet.
10:42Does he always have to pay me?
10:43He's a man.
10:44He's someone who does this.
10:45He's an artist.
10:46I don't know.
10:46He's an artist.
10:47He'll be a master's student.
10:47He can't buy him.
10:48That's okay.
10:49He'll be a master's student.
10:49Oh, oh, that's why he decided to take over the company.
11:11Well, he does want to investigate something his dad was doing,
11:17but considering there's been an implication about the people or person who hit his dad in a car accident
11:26that caused his dad to be brain dead, basically,
11:29and then there's an implication that the same group of people maybe is responsible for the accident Paisu was in.
11:38So we haven't gotten a lot of insight into it yet,
11:41but we have a little bit of an idea that Paisu might not be investigating his dad
11:46just to, like, find out bad stuff his dad was doing.
11:50I feel like he's investigating, like, a bigger picture.
11:54You know, the thing that almost killed his father and something his father was involved in.
12:00So, like, that's the thing.
12:01And of course, he's not going to say anything to, like, defend himself,
12:04but I really think he's not just looking into his dad.
12:08Like, yeah, there's- there's something else.
12:10There's, like, a bigger picture.
12:11Like, his dad was involved, and he wants to find out stuff that his dad was doing,
12:15but there's- there's something else.
12:26You're in my hands now.
12:28Okay.
12:30Okay.
12:32All right.
12:38Oh, do we get an umbrella scene again?
12:44Yes.
12:47Mm.
12:49Little goth umbrella.
12:54Why are we-
12:55Okay.
12:56Are there, like, private cemeteries
13:25that you need permission to enter?
13:27Like-
13:28Oh, that-
13:36Is a very beautiful box.
13:52Oh, you got gloves for me?
14:04Mm.
14:07I got gloves for you.
14:11Don't-
14:12What?
14:17I don't understand why-
14:21Okay.
14:25For a second, I thought he was gonna be, like-
14:28Be like, what, you want me to put your glove on for you?
14:30Uh-
14:30Okay.
14:39Hmm.
14:40Hmm.
14:42Ha!
14:49Ha!
14:49If it's too far, there's a chance to meet a person who has a chance to meet the next year,
14:53then they'll choose to have a gift for the past year,
14:55and they'll be able to achieve the future.
15:02If it's the time that Su Ling is the most valuable moment in the past,
15:05that's when she was young.
15:09That is weird, though, that they don't have a photo of her as an adult.
15:15Oh.
15:19You mean...
15:33...where the ashes are?
15:35What you mean?
15:37Yeah, what do you mean?
15:39Oh, yeah, that's...
15:41Oh, yeah, that's it.
15:43Oh, yeah.
15:45That's it.
15:47But maybe there is something inside.
16:04But maybe there is
16:14something inside.
16:20Hmm.
16:27Okay.
16:30Is it just like a bag of ashes?
16:33Is that how they do these?
16:34What?
16:41Oh, right.
16:42Because we're betting on there being an object
16:44hidden in the ashes.
16:47Oh.
16:48Yeah, ooh.
16:51Oh, yeah.
16:59What the heck?
17:01They really did that.
17:03What the heck?
17:05What the heck?
17:07That's what I thought.
17:24This started with Su Lingnai's mother.
17:44Oh.
17:47Whoa.
17:49So we're going Su Fei, Su Lingnai, and then Su, I forget her name, the current girl that
17:55they have in custody.
17:56This has been going on that long?
17:58Hmm.
17:58Hmm.
18:06Hmm.
18:07Hmm.
18:07Hmm.
18:13Oh, man.
18:24So they got more people to help them.
18:45That's a good question.
18:54Hmm.
19:07Probably destined to be someone like Sufei?
19:19Sufei?
19:35Well, illusion of free will and all that.
19:40Hmm.
19:48He's not thinking about that.
19:51Hmm.
19:57Hmm.
20:01Hmm.
20:02Hmm.
20:04Hmm.
20:05Hmm.
20:35Oh, he just had a realization.
20:41Oh my god, no.
20:43No way.
20:47Could the bodies possibly have been hidden somewhere that his father's company was going to develop?
20:54Hmm.
21:01That's a good question.
21:03Does it have to do with his mother?
21:16She's making us bifloral dresses.
21:22Hmm.
21:23Hmm.
21:40Hmm.
21:41Hmm.
21:41Hmm.
21:41Hmm.
21:57Hmm.
22:11Hmm.
22:39Hmm.
22:40Hmm.
22:41Hmm.
22:42Hmm.
22:51What?
22:52Eh?
22:53Is there something in there?
22:57Oh.
23:02Are you sure you should look at those photos, Heisu?
23:06Uh.
23:07Hmm.
23:08Hmm.
23:09Hmm.
23:10Hmm.
23:11Hmm.
23:12Hmm.
23:13Hmm.
23:14Hmm.
23:15Hmm.
23:16Hmm.
23:17Hmm.
23:18Hmm.
23:19Hmm.
23:20Hmm.
23:21Hmm.
23:22Hmm.
23:23Hmm.
23:24Hmm.
23:25Hmm.
23:26Hmm.
23:27Hmm.
23:28Hmm.
23:29Hmm.
23:30Hmm.
23:31Hmm.
23:32Hmm.
23:33Hmm.
23:34Hmm.
23:35Hmm.
23:36Hmm.
23:37Hmm.
23:38Hmm.
23:39Hmm.
23:40Hmm.
23:41Hmm.
23:42Hmm.
23:43Hmm.
23:44Hmm.
23:45Hmm.
23:46Hmm.
23:47Hmm.
23:48Hmm.
23:49Hmm.
23:50Hmm.
23:51Hmm.
23:52Hmm.
23:53Hmm.
23:54Hmm.
23:55Hmm.
23:56Hmm.
23:57Hmm.
23:58Hmm.
23:59Hmm.
24:00Hmm.
24:01Oh, he was like peeking from another, from outside.
24:05What?
24:17What?
24:18What?
24:24He's right there right now, so you can go ask him.
24:32Well?
24:33All right, what's that photo you're looking at?
24:36I want to know.
24:44Looks familiar.
24:52Ooh, the guy in the picture looks like someone he knows.
25:02Hmm.
25:03Someone you saw in the last 30 days.
25:19Is he one of the guys that they were fighting?
25:23No?
25:23Oh, my God.
25:37Oh, my God.
25:51The job that you like the most.
26:10Yeah.
26:11Hmm.
26:11Hmm.
26:12I'm going to ask you, I'm going to ask you a question today.
26:19I'm going to ask you a question.
26:21That day, it was the day of the day.
26:25How did you find a woman?
26:27It's not just a child.
26:29Yes.
26:30This person is徐东宇.
26:31I'm going to ask you a woman.
26:33Do you remember when he contacted you?
26:36How did he tell you?
26:38At that time, he gave me a comment.
26:41This dad is going to feel so messed up to find out that that boy that helped him has been involved in this.
26:50Like, that's one thing that I'm like, I cannot imagine.
27:11It's not a person's voice.
27:13That's a person's voice.
27:14If she at school, she refused to get a hearing.
27:17If she wasTA to send her phone to me, then she went to the 09F.
27:21She goes to the 10F.
27:22She went to the 10F.
27:24She was going to ask her to get her.
27:25She went to the 10F.
27:27She walked to the 10F.
27:28She was going to have a man's village.
27:30She went to the 10F.
27:32She went to the 10F.
27:34She went to the 10F.
27:35She went to the 10F.
27:37Hmm.
28:07Man, I could never do something like that.
28:17I'm so spatially inept.
28:32Yeah, I'm worried about how involved this guy is getting
28:36that he might, like, do something.
28:54See, I don't think so.
28:56You killed someone who was doing this,
28:58but there's other people.
28:59Yeah, I guess they can't really tell him anything reassuring now.
29:29Oh, whoa, they're really setting this up.
29:52Whoa.
29:53Is this to try to see, like, where you'd have to be to get that
29:57kind of photograph?
30:03Huh?
30:07Do they do this in real life?
30:09For cases like this?
30:11Like, set up a frickin' model of all of it in-in real?
30:25Oh, okay.
30:26They're in the neighborhood,
30:28and they're trying to see, like,
30:30could you get a photograph like that
30:32from a certain vantage point?
30:34Is-is that what's happening?
30:36Hmm.
30:57Oh, okay.
30:58So he would have been on the steps somewhere
31:00taking that photo.
31:01Oh.
31:06Hello, what does that say?
31:21Have you found bodies?
31:25So does that make that, like,
31:27three different apartments
31:28that we're operating out of now?
31:30All right, Song Lan,
31:45answer for your crimes.
31:48That's the same actor that played Song Lan
31:50in The Untamed.
31:52I can't deal with that.
31:53That doesn't mean you can't
32:04do a crime?
32:06Yes.
32:07Or because you wanted...
32:31Uh-huh.
32:31Uh-huh.
32:34It's so Lolita.
32:36He's...
32:49Mm-hmm.
32:58Mm-hmm.
33:02Mm-hmm.
33:02Mm-hmm.
33:06He doesn't want to marry you, but it's the only thing that he has to do with his money, or it's the only thing that he has to do with.
33:13Mmhmm.
33:23Ooh!
33:26What's the thing that he pasted?
33:29We saw it, but we didn't get a translation of what it said.
33:34You didn't hear anything?
33:36Then I'll just say it clearly.
33:38The
33:39The
33:40The
33:41The
33:42The
33:44The
33:45The
33:46The
33:47The
33:48The
33:49The
33:50The
33:51The
33:52The
33:53The
33:54The
33:55The
33:56The
33:57The
33:58The
33:59The
34:00The
34:01The
34:02Yep.
34:03There we go.
34:06Oh.
34:07Oh.
34:08Oh.
34:09Oh.
34:10Oh.
34:11Oh dear.
34:12Oh.
34:13Oh dear.
34:14Oh.
34:15Oh dear.
34:16Oh.
34:17I see.
34:18Oh.
34:19I see.
34:20What?
34:21Huh?
34:22What?
34:23Oh.
34:27Oh.
34:28What?
34:29Huh?
34:35Oh.
34:41A
34:45Oh.
34:48A secret photo developing room.
35:02Woo!
35:13Oh, man.
35:15Oh, man.
35:16That photo is so viscerally creepy.
35:40Okay, and?
35:41Like, you're enabling it.
35:48You took photos, or you enabled other people to do it, so, you know.
35:52I do think that's just the same actress as the daughter.
36:14Ah, yeah.
36:21Yeah.
36:21So he became obsessed with her, and as an adult, he still looks at girls that were like her.
36:44Uh-huh.
36:55Uh-huh.
37:02Now, why was that man allowing this stuff to be visible in his window?
37:06Oh, okay.
37:13It's like that.
37:17Oh.
37:18Oh.
37:24Yep.
37:25Oh, that's so horrifying.
37:37But really, why did that man not have blackout curtains?
37:41I mean, it's a good thing he didn't, because we figured out, finally, the whole story of
37:48what's going on.
37:48Oh.
37:48See what happened.
37:49What's going on?
37:54What?
37:54Oh.
38:00Oh.
38:05Oh.
38:06There was a lot of time.
38:10I was very happy.
38:13I was so happy about the new house.
38:17I was a little tired.
38:20I was back in the second day.
38:22I was on the next day to my house.
38:36Oh
39:06So I know this has been a thing going on in this family like intergenerationally
39:33where like if the now grandmother Sue Faye was like trafficked and brought into this
39:41that you know she was abused but she also started helping to like bring other girls in
39:47and well or it might have been the case that she more of like had a a partner who did that
39:53and she just sort of was drunk and just kind of like let it happen in a way versus like actively
40:00being involved I'm not totally clear what all Sue Faye I think is her name from the diary I'm not
40:07totally clear like everything that she did but she was at the very least an enabler and you have it
40:12like going on in the generations of this family but that doesn't mean that I believe him that
40:18Su Ling Nye like forced him to be part of this because he could still be lying to save his skin
40:24right now which I I feel like he is lying
40:28and you think that she wasn't
40:53Su Ling Nye like holding her hand
41:21i mean
41:26i mean i don't know that's okay
41:31oh duh see i was keeping like well yeah i think he's lying um i mean he's obviously
41:44i think he has to be lying about su ling nai somehow convincing him to get involved i think
41:50he wanted to do this and they're setting up parallels between him and humbert humbert the
41:55character from lolita and lolita is like the book for the story arc so it totally makes sense from
42:01what i remember from reading lolita forever ago humbert humbert has this thing where like there
42:07was a girl he liked when he was a child and he kind of put her on a pedestal and it's like he never got
42:14over that and so as an adult it's like he's he's stuck at that point and he still obsesses over
42:21little girls that are in some way similar to the girl he was into when he was a child so it's like
42:29he just never got past that point and there are like certain traits that these girls have that he
42:36like makes up this archetype for and it's like oh it's so it's so deeply messed up obviously and by
42:45the way don't let anyone tell you that lolita like romanticizes a pedophile because it absolutely does
42:51not like it's in his perspective and you're supposed to see how gross and terrible he is but some people
42:59did not get the memo anyway so like he's kind of seems to me like he's paralleling humbert humbert
43:08in part because we have like a certain thing that the suspect is obsessed with and it's like okay the
43:16original suspect was obsessed with floral dresses and he's now obsessed with girls in floral dresses
43:22too because su ling nai would wear a floral dress and he thought there was something special and amazing
43:28and perfect about her and so i think he's like continued the floral dress thing because of su ling
43:35nai so that's like his thing and humbert humbert like had those things so it just makes me think
43:42we're supposed to see him as like a parallel of the humbert humbert character but also when i was
43:49re-watching the show via britney's reactions i realized that the guy who's like wearing a fake mustache
43:56and like has a cane like pretending to be blind as part of the setup for trying to capture that one
44:02girl whose name i forget right now but that almost definitely was this actor because you get a decent
44:09look at his face and he's in a very not great disguise and it's like yeah it's gotta be this guy
44:16that looked like this guy that looked like this guy it has to be him two hours later
44:21sure sure bro
44:28would you please
44:58I have a few questions to ask you.
45:01You said you can't hold on to Surovan.
45:05But the girl is not like that.
45:08She said you two are pretty good.
45:11You're being an old man.
45:14Yep.
45:15Ah, we saw you.
45:43Right.
45:45So disgusting, huh?
45:48So disgusting, huh?
45:50Hmm.
45:55Hmm.
46:00Hmm.
46:10Hmm.
46:13Oh, that's what really happened.
46:26Oh, damn.
46:27Okay.
46:28Hmm.
46:29Hmm.
46:30Oh, damn.
46:31Okay.
46:32Hmm.
46:33Hmm.
46:34Hmm.
46:35Hmm.
46:36Hmm.
46:37Hmm.
46:38Hmm.
46:39Hmm.
46:40Hmm.
46:41Hmm.
46:42Hmm.
46:43Hmm.
46:44Hmm.
46:45Hmm.
46:46Hmm.
46:47Hmm.
46:48Hmm.
46:49Hmm.
46:50Hmm.
46:51Hmm.
46:52Hmm.
46:53Hmm.
46:54Hmm.
46:55Hmm.
46:56Hmm.
46:57Hmm.
46:58Hmm.
46:59Hmm.
47:00Hmm.
47:01Hmm.
47:02Hmm.
47:03Hmm.
47:04Hmm.
47:05When have we heard 13th District Marina Bay before?
47:34Isn't that the...
47:35Where the...
47:36Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
47:37Isn't that where the Paisu's father's company is?
47:40The pay group?
47:41He was saying something in the car, I guess at the end of episode 8,
47:47about how they were trying to have some development plans in 13th District Marina Bay.
47:53But the people they're working with keep, like, rejecting it
47:56because they don't want anything to be developed there.
47:58And maybe that's why they don't want anything to be developed there,
48:02because there's a whole... a whole trafficking group that's using that area.
48:07Oh my god.
48:11This music is crazy right now.
48:14No, I'm just leaving him with the photos.
48:30All right, bro.
48:39Is that...
48:44Whoa.
48:46Oh.
48:47That was a cool transition.
48:48Oh.
48:55Oh.
49:07So there really is just, like, a crazy conspiracy going on behind the scenes.
49:12With, like, the development contract stuff.
49:15Oh, they...
49:26Did they find his daughter's body?
49:33Wait, wait.
49:34No, they wouldn't have...
49:35Hold on.
49:36I know that he's still...
49:37The father still has this question of if there's a chance that his daughter could actually be alive.
49:43They found the bodies in this place, though.
49:46So I'm like, did we also find the bodies and, like, or evidence of the bodies from 16 years ago?
49:52I assume that's the implication.
49:57That's...
49:57That's the episode.
49:59That was the episode.
50:00That was episode 9.
50:02Boy, am I so glad that we got this show back.
50:05Because, I'm gonna be honest, even if we didn't have the, albeit censored, romance.
50:13Like, even if the BL angle was not there at all, the cases in this show are really interesting.
50:21The...
50:21It's so interesting having books that parallel each case, each story arc.
50:27And that's not just the show's credit.
50:29That is what Priest wrote into Silent Reading, which is the book this is based on.
50:35But just to see that in a show and, like, the camera angles are so good.
50:40The lighting is so good.
50:41Like, the Department of Photography...
50:43I don't know what they were doing, but they did something amazing with this show.
50:48And I can see it even in this sort of slightly limited quality.
50:52Heck, I mean, I might even go back and watch, like, the file I have that currently has no subtitles.
50:57Just to see it all pretty and perfectly 1080p and whatnot.
51:01Um, because, like, the show is just so beautiful.
51:04And eerie and creepy and disturbing.
51:07What can I say?
51:08That was amazing.
51:09And I thought I was going to sit down to film one episode and then get on with my night.
51:15But I think I might just sit here and film my reaction to episode 10.
51:20Because I don't want to leave.
51:21I don't want to go away.
51:22I just want to see what happens next.
51:24So I'm going to get right into doing that.
51:27And until next time, this is eSoup signing out.
