Deputy Harassing Senior Citizen - September 29, 2023

On the evening of September 29th, 2023, Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were supposed to be looking for a "rolling domestic" - that is, a domestic disturbance/battery occurring in a moving car - headed north toward Ouachita Parish.

One deputy saw a southbound motorist allegedly staring at him, so he turned around (driving recklessly, I'm sure, in catching up) and followed the car for a few miles. The car had a handicap plate and is registered to an 88 year old woman, though it's unclear whether she was the driver. He didn't find any reason to pull them over.

Another deputy who was near the parish line (about 15 miles from the other deputy) turned around, abandoning the search for the domestic to go assist the other deputy with his harassment and predatory policing.

To my knowledge, "staring at" a cop is not legal grounds to go after a car. Considering the totality of the circumstances, had he found a reason to make a traffic stop, it would've been unreasonable/unlawful anyway due to the deputy's reckless driving posing a bigger threat to public safety than did the reason he went after the car in the first place.
