00:00You're tuned in to Presbyter Chat, where your questions are answered through the prism of pre-Nicene Christianity and the first Christian Bible of 144 AD.
00:09Now your host, Presbyter Darren Kalama.
00:12Thanks for joining us.
00:14Today's question, like most of them at first glance, appears to have a direct path leading to a crisp and decisive conclusion.
00:22And also, like most of them, we find instead a tangled web of theological double-talk, linguistic acrobatics, and biblical scholars and apologists dancing on the head of a pin.
00:34But ultimately, and as always, we eventually do find the answer.
00:39Now this one is from Lois in Missouri.
00:43Hi Darren, which version of the Lord's Prayer is the correct one?
00:48Well first, let me frame this for what it is.
00:51This question goes to the heart of not only translation errors in Judaized Bibles, but also later editing and creative interpretation of those translations.
01:03And how do you know if you have a Judaized Bible?
01:06Well, it's simple.
01:07Is an alien religion called the Old Testament stapled to the front of it?
01:12Well then, yes, you have a Judaized Bible.
01:15And by the way, the last time the Lord's Prayer was changed and edited was by decree of Pope Francis in 2019, just six years ago.
01:26More on that later.
01:27And just like most things we're going to discuss here, it's news you probably never heard of.
01:34So where were we?
01:35Ah yes, the Lord's Prayer.
01:37Easily the most important and foundational prayer in Scripture that you're going to find in any Bible on the planet.
01:45Nothing else encapsulates Christianity in toto like this brief prayer.
01:51About 60 of the most important words ever strung together into a single prayer.
01:58And yet we find it is the most butchered, edited, mistranslated, and perverted Scripture in history.
02:06But why?
02:08Well, because it's the most powerful prayer that has ever existed.
02:12Now in it, Jesus, the Son of God, tells you precisely how to pray to our Father and tells you His name.
02:21Literally, how to communicate with God, by name, our Father.
02:26Not some alien deity called Yahweh.
02:30Now remember, Yahweh is a name that is found nowhere in the New Testament.
02:36Jesus didn't start waving a magic chicken over His head while screaming the name Yahweh in Hebrew with phlegmatic inflections.
02:46No, it was our Father.
02:49The name of our Christian God is Father.
02:52Now, I don't know about you, but I'd say that's pretty important information.
02:57And it's not something Jesus just blurts out randomly.
03:01And by the way, this discussion with His apostles was spoken in Greek.
03:06Specifically, Koine Greek.
03:08It was the language used by everybody in the Roman Empire at that time.
03:13The lingua franca of all.
03:15In fact, your entire New Testament and this prayer was originally written in Greek.
03:22Not Latin, not Hebrew, not Aramaic.
03:25Greek.
03:26Everybody spoke and wrote in Greek.
03:30Simply put, it's the language of God.
03:33Now, this is an important data point as we move forward and have a base of understanding for the prayer.
03:39And incidentally, you can thank Alexander the Great and his Hellenization campaign for the common language used throughout the Roman Empire.
03:50Now, back on point.
03:52Jesus is asked specifically by His apostles how to pray to God.
03:56So, there's no question about subtext here.
04:00There is a direct question and a direct answer.
04:03Now, first, I'm going to read the original from the first Christian Bible of 144 AD.
04:09This is the unchanged, unedited, original prayer just as we find it in the Gospel of the Lord.
04:17Directly from Greek to English with no Latin pit stops.
04:22And if you want to follow along, you can go to theveryfirstbible.org and download a free copy.
04:29Here is the Lord's Prayer.
04:32Now, that sounds pretty good for just 58 words.
05:01But I wonder what it would sound like in person.
05:04Imagine you're standing next to Jesus and He's telling you how to pray to our Father.
05:09I wonder what that would sound like.
05:11Oh, I know.
05:12Let's find out.
05:13Let's pray.
05:44ʿKe mi eisāgyesi mas eis pirazmō.
05:49That was Greek, by the way.
05:51Now we'll take a look at the later versions,
05:54which were edited, annotated, and Judaized,
05:57just as we find them in the King James Bible.
06:00We're going to start with the Matthew version,
06:02because it was the first attempt at Judaizing
06:06the Gospel of the Lord from the original Bible.
06:09Next, we'll take a look at the Luke version.
06:12And both, it should be noted,
06:13were written by anonymous authors,
06:16which is, of course, another discussion all unto itself.
06:20I mean, how is something divinely inspired
06:22if the author is anonymous?
06:25How can both versions be divinely inspired
06:27if the words are different?
06:29Was one more divinely inspired than the other?
06:32Were they divinely inspired by our Father
06:35or by an alien deity named Yahweh
06:38from a different religion?
06:40Was Pope Francis divinely inspired
06:43when he changed the divinely inspired words
06:47in the prayer in 2019?
06:50Or perhaps he got a good role
06:52and used the plus-three staff of divine inspiration
06:56to magically change the prayer?
06:59What's next?
07:00Anonymous material witnesses in court
07:03who are exempt from cross-examination
07:05because their testimony is considered
07:08to be divinely inspired?
07:10I mean, this sounds like the very definition
07:13of apocryphal, does it not?
07:15But I digress.
07:17And I have every confidence
07:18that Lois from Missouri
07:20will be weighing in with these
07:22and similar questions for a different episode.
07:26Now, here is the Matthew version
07:28of the Lord's Prayer, chapter 6, 9 through 13.
07:33Our Father, which art in heaven,
07:35hallowed be thy name.
07:37Thy kingdom come,
07:38thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
07:41Give us this day our daily bread,
07:44and forgive us our debts,
07:46as we forgive our debtors.
07:48And lead us not into temptation,
07:50but deliver us from evil.
07:52For thine is the kingdom
07:54and the power and the glory forever.
07:58Amen.
07:58Now, the later version
08:00from equally anonymous Luke,
08:02we find that in chapter 11, 2 through 4.
08:05And he said unto them,
08:07When ye pray, say,
08:09Our Father, which art in heaven,
08:12hallowed be thy name.
08:13Thy kingdom come.
08:15Thy will be done as in heaven,
08:17so in earth.
08:18Give us day by day our daily bread,
08:21and forgive us our sins.
08:23For we also forgive everyone
08:25that is indebted to us.
08:27And lead us not into temptation,
08:29but deliver us from evil.
08:31And now the Catholic version
08:33of the Lord's Prayer.
08:34Our Father, who art in heaven,
08:36hallowed be thy name.
08:38Thy kingdom come.
08:39Thy will be done on earth
08:40as it is in heaven.
08:42Give us this day our daily bread,
08:44and forgive us our trespasses,
08:46as we forgive those
08:47who trespass against us.
08:49And lead us not into temptation,
08:52but deliver us from evil.
08:55However, in 2019,
08:57Pope Francis changed
08:59lead us not into temptation
09:01to do not let us fall into temptation.
09:05Now, officially,
09:07this change was mandated
09:08for the Italian translation
09:10of the prayer.
09:11But what's important
09:12is the reasoning that Francis used
09:15when editing the Lord's Prayer.
09:16This is from him, quote,
09:18It is not a good translation,
09:20because it speaks of a God
09:22who induces temptation,
09:24he told Italian TV, continuing.
09:27I am the one who falls.
09:29It's not him pushing me
09:31into temptation
09:31to then see how I have fallen.
09:34A father doesn't do that.
09:36A father helps you
09:37to get up immediately.
09:39It's Satan who leads us
09:41into temptation.
09:42That's his department, unquote.
09:44Now, I think you'll agree,
09:47this same reasoning
09:48could be applied
09:49to all languages,
09:51not just Italian,
09:52could it not?
09:53Why just one language?
09:55Was it just the camel's nose
09:57under the tent
09:58to see what he could get away with?
10:00I mean,
10:01oh, well,
10:01it's just the Italian version.
10:03It's not a big deal, right?
10:05But let's back the truck up a little.
10:07In fact,
10:08let's zoom out
10:09from 30,000 feet
10:10and have a look at this mess.
10:12First,
10:13the pre-Nicene Christians,
10:15especially the Marcionites,
10:17have always known
10:18that Yahweh,
10:19the deity worshipped by Jews,
10:21is not the same
10:22as our Father.
10:24Specifically,
10:25they believed
10:25that God our Father
10:26was only revealed
10:27through his Son,
10:29Jesus Christ,
10:31not before.
10:32You see,
10:33Yahweh,
10:33the desert war god,
10:35or any of the other
10:36dozen deities
10:37like Molech,
10:39Chemosh,
10:39or Baal,
10:40worshipped by monolatrous Jews
10:43over the centuries,
10:44are alien to our belief system,
10:47just as the deities
10:48of Hindus,
10:49Islamists,
10:50and Buddhas are.
10:52And it was this core belief
10:53that caused a schism
10:55in the church
10:56in 144 AD.
10:58That's when St. Marcion
10:59and Pope Pius I
11:01had their big showdown
11:03in Rome.
11:04Marcion laid
11:05the first Christian Bible
11:06and the Torah
11:07side by side
11:09and compared
11:10the described actions
11:12and behavior
11:12of both gods.
11:14The Yahweh deity
11:16of the Torah
11:16is,
11:17by the words
11:17of his own worshippers,
11:18a barbaric sociopath
11:20who not only genocides
11:23women and children,
11:24but even takes time off
11:25to kill his own people
11:27when he's in a bad mood.
11:28You see,
11:29Yahweh is both good
11:31and evil
11:32in their belief system.
11:34Read Ezekiel 9.6
11:35for a taste
11:36of the juicy details.
11:38And don't worry,
11:39we're going to apply
11:40this context
11:41to our main subject
11:42in just a second.
11:44Anyway,
11:44despite these facts,
11:46Pope Pius I
11:47chose to side
11:49with the Judaizers
11:50and their Yahweh deity.
11:52In 382 AD,
11:53his decision
11:54was codified
11:55when the Torah books
11:56were stapled
11:57to the front
11:58of the edited
11:59New Testament.
12:00The Torah Yahweh books
12:01were then renamed
12:02and you know them now
12:04as the Old Testament.
12:06And let there be
12:06no mistake
12:07as we move forward.
12:09Yahweh is the God
12:10of the Catholic Church.
12:12Yahweh is the God
12:14of every denomination
12:15that has Torah books
12:17stapled to the front
12:18of their Bible.
12:19And by the way,
12:20the name Yahweh
12:21is used
12:216,832 times
12:24in that Old Testament.
12:26And yet,
12:26we find the name Yahweh
12:27not even once
12:29in the New Testament.
12:30Well,
12:31these are the facts
12:32and they are undisputed.
12:33Now,
12:34with this additional context,
12:35we find the changes
12:36made by Pope Francis
12:38and the reasoning
12:39behind it
12:40quite bizarre,
12:42keeping in mind
12:43the dozens of times
12:44that Yahweh
12:45tricked,
12:46deceived,
12:47and killed
12:47his own people.
12:49Let's read the quote
12:50from Pope Francis
12:51one more time.
12:52It is not a good translation
12:54because it speaks
12:55of a God
12:56who induces
12:57temptation,
12:59unquote.
12:59And remember,
13:00this is what he said
13:02on Italian TV.
13:03Quote,
13:04I am the one who falls.
13:06It's not him pushing me
13:07into temptation
13:08to then see
13:09how I have fallen.
13:11A father doesn't do that.
13:13A father helps you
13:14to get up immediately.
13:16It's Satan
13:17who leads us
13:17into temptation.
13:19That's his department,
13:21unquote.
13:22Now,
13:22I'm not a papal expert,
13:24but I did do
13:2512 years of Catholic schooling
13:27in Chicago,
13:28taught by brothers.
13:29And I'm going to assume,
13:31and maybe I'm way
13:31off base here,
13:32but I'm going to assume
13:34that to be Pope,
13:35you have to,
13:36maybe as a minimum requirement,
13:38you probably have to
13:39at least read the Bible
13:41that your church uses.
13:43So,
13:44not to put too fine
13:45a point on the question,
13:46but how do we square
13:48the Pope's statement
13:49and reasoning
13:50for changing
13:51the Lord's Prayer
13:51with what we can all
13:53read for ourselves
13:54about Yahweh
13:55in the Old Testament?
13:57You know what?
13:57I have a better idea.
13:59Let's just skip
14:00all the examples
14:01as told by his own people.
14:03Let's get a direct quote
14:05from Yahweh himself
14:06as we read it in
14:07Isaiah 45, 7,
14:10quote,
14:10I form the light
14:12and create darkness.
14:13I make peace
14:15and create evil.
14:17I, the Lord,
14:18do all these things,
14:20unquote.
14:21And yet here's Pope Francis
14:22distancing Yahweh
14:24from ever causing
14:25something like temptation
14:27and by extension,
14:29distancing himself
14:30from Yahweh.
14:31He's like the battered
14:32wife of theology,
14:34protecting the husband
14:35at a cocktail party.
14:36Whoa,
14:37I know Yahweh
14:37can get a little tense
14:39from time to time,
14:40but tempting somebody
14:41to do something?
14:42Wow,
14:43he would never do that.
14:45I mean,
14:45how bizarre.
14:47Now,
14:47there was a time
14:48when I would just
14:49chalk this up
14:50to the usual
14:51cognitive dissonance
14:52that all Judeo-Christians
14:54exhibit
14:55when trying to explain
14:57two different religions
14:58stapled together.
15:00In fact,
15:00they have an entire
15:01apologetics industry
15:03that is paid
15:03to dance on the head
15:04of a pin
15:05and explain away reality.
15:08But in this case,
15:08I don't think
15:09what Francis said
15:10is reflective
15:11of simple
15:12cognitive dissonance.
15:14Now,
15:15despite the cartoonish
15:16framing and phrasing
15:17that he uses,
15:18there's something
15:19much deeper
15:20being expressed.
15:21What's the word
15:22I'm looking for?
15:24Oh yeah,
15:25limited hangout
15:26with maybe a side order
15:28of trial balloons.
15:30Simply put,
15:31the Catholic Church
15:31is trying to claim
15:33the ground
15:34held by the
15:35Marcionite Church,
15:36the ground
15:37of the good God,
15:38the ground
15:39of our Father.
15:41Perhaps you've noticed
15:42that it seems
15:43a veil
15:44is slowly being removed
15:46from the hearts
15:48and minds of people
15:49and they're beginning
15:50to see things
15:51for what they truly are.
15:53Why are these
15:54Judeo-Christian
15:55denominations
15:56suddenly distancing
15:58themselves
15:59from the
16:00Yahweh deity?
16:01I mean,
16:02after 2,000 years,
16:03it's a little late
16:05to pretend
16:06that you didn't
16:07know what was
16:08in your Bible
16:08that whole time.
16:10And yet,
16:10amazingly,
16:11here's the
16:12since-departed Pope
16:13talking like
16:14a Marcionite.
16:15How bizarre.
16:17And it didn't
16:17just start
16:18six years ago
16:19with Francis
16:20changing the
16:21Lord's Prayer
16:22and feigning
16:23ignorance
16:24of the actions
16:25of his own God.
16:27No,
16:27the Catholic Church
16:28in particular
16:29felt the ground
16:30shifting
16:31a long time ago.
16:33I call it
16:33the Yahweh problem.
16:35You see,
16:36everybody signs up
16:37for Jesus.
16:39Nobody signs up
16:40for Yahweh.
16:42Yahweh
16:43is the
16:44poison pill
16:45they give you
16:46on the back end
16:47after signing up
16:48for Jesus.
16:49And people are
16:49starting to wise up
16:51to the trick,
16:52the deception.
16:53So how do you
16:54solve a 2,000-year-old
16:56Yahweh problem
16:57if you're
16:58the Catholic Church?
16:59I mean,
17:00sure,
17:00you can change
17:01a couple of prayers
17:02here and there,
17:03but substantially
17:04the same problem
17:05remains.
17:06At the end of the day
17:07you have two options.
17:09Either one,
17:10admit you were wrong
17:12in 144 AD
17:13and come home
17:15to our Father
17:15and unify Christians
17:17again.
17:18Or two,
17:19ignore the Yahweh
17:20problem,
17:21pop smoke,
17:22and pretend
17:23it doesn't exist.
17:25And as you've
17:25probably guessed,
17:26the Catholic Church
17:27went with door
17:28number two.
17:29Now,
17:3017 years ago,
17:31June 29,
17:332008,
17:34to be precise,
17:35the Congregation
17:36for Divine Worship
17:38and the Discipline
17:39of the Sacraments,
17:41otherwise known as
17:42CDWDS,
17:45published a letter
17:46to the Bishop's Conference
17:47titled,
17:48The Name of God.
17:51And in it,
17:52they ordered
17:52the name Yahweh
17:53removed
17:54from every Catholic
17:56liturgical guide
17:58on the planet.
17:58That's right,
18:00every hymn,
18:01every song,
18:02every mass.
18:04The name Yahweh
18:05was then replaced
18:06with the generic
18:08descriptors
18:09of Lord
18:10or God.
18:12Well,
18:12what Yahweh?
18:13Yahweh who?
18:15That's right,
18:16meet your new
18:16nameless,
18:17anonymous God,
18:19just like the
18:20anonymous gospel authors.
18:22How bizarre!
18:24Now,
18:24before we circle back
18:26to the change itself,
18:27I'd like to just
18:28make a quick point
18:29about context
18:30and the absence
18:31of it.
18:32A declarative
18:33or story
18:34devoid of context
18:35is the playground
18:37of the devil
18:38and a circus
18:38for liars.
18:40So,
18:40whether it's religion,
18:42politics,
18:42or science,
18:43make sure that you
18:44do your homework.
18:45Now,
18:45I've given you
18:46some context
18:48about this Lord's Prayer,
18:50but did you know
18:51that context
18:52was also provided
18:53for the Apostle Paul's
18:55Ten Epistles.
18:56In the first Christian Bible
18:58of 144 AD,
19:00prologues accompanied
19:01each of the letters,
19:03describing the people
19:05and events
19:05that surrounded
19:06the need
19:07for each epistle.
19:09Just an interesting point.
19:11Now,
19:11back to Pope Francis
19:12and his changing of
19:14lead us not
19:15into temptation
19:16to
19:16do not let us
19:18fall into temptation.
19:20Now,
19:20I guess
19:21we're to assume
19:22that none of the
19:23five million
19:24full-time employees
19:26of the Catholic Church
19:27actually speaks Greek
19:29or that
19:30of its
19:3073 billion dollar
19:33treasury,
19:34not a single
19:35leptin or drachma
19:36could be
19:37spared
19:37to hire
19:38a translator.
19:39You see,
19:40the Greek word
19:41for temptation,
19:43pyrasmos,
19:44can mean
19:44test,
19:46trial,
19:47or
19:47temptation.
19:49Thus,
19:49do not bring us
19:50into testing,
19:51do not put us
19:52to the test,
19:54or lead us
19:54not into trial,
19:56would have also
19:57been good translations.
19:59And by the way,
20:00for a clue
20:01as to which test
20:02or trial
20:03is being referred to,
20:05we turn to
20:06chapter 9,
20:07verse 1
20:08of the Gospel
20:09of the Lord
20:10and read the following,
20:11quote,
20:11And when they bring you
20:13up before the synagogues
20:14and unto the rulers
20:15and authorities,
20:17be not anxious
20:18or what thing
20:19you shall answer
20:20or what you
20:21shall say.
20:23For the Holy Spirit
20:24shall teach you
20:25in the same hour
20:26what you
20:27ought to say,
20:29unquote.
20:30Now,
20:30that sure sounds
20:31like a test
20:32or trial
20:33to me.
20:33And it serves
20:34as a reminder
20:35that each
20:36and every word
20:37is in that prayer
20:38for a reason.
20:40These aren't
20:41random words.
20:43It's not
20:43a rap song
20:44where we
20:45grab a speak-and-spell
20:47and find something
20:48that rhymes
20:48or pick a word
20:50that makes us
20:51feel better.
20:52And if Bergoglio
20:53can change words
20:54in the Bible
20:55because he
20:56doesn't like
20:57the way something
20:57sounded,
20:58who else
20:59made changes?
21:00You think
21:00an English king,
21:02Judaizers
21:03in the early church,
21:04or a Roman emperor
21:06wouldn't also
21:07feel the need
21:08to make changes?
21:10Well,
21:10for the greater good,
21:12of course.
21:13In other words,
21:14there was no need
21:15to change
21:16the most important
21:17prayer in Christianity.
21:19But he did it anyway.
21:20He did it deliberate.
21:22Like spray-painting
21:23ghetto graffiti
21:24on a great work of art.
21:26It's just bizarre.
21:28But wait a minute.
21:29Off in the distance,
21:31I think I hear
21:32something ringing.
21:33It sounds like,
21:34oh, that's right,
21:35it's a clue phone.
21:37Gee, I wonder
21:38what that's all about.
21:39Well, we just read
21:41in the last verse
21:42two interesting words,
21:44didn't we?
21:44Holy Spirit.
21:46Let's pull up
21:47that graphic again,
21:48comparing the
21:49original Lord's Prayer
21:50with the edited
21:51Matthew, Luke,
21:52and Catholic versions.
21:54Now,
21:55what in the world
21:57is going on here?
21:58Why have all
21:59three versions
22:00deleted the words
22:02Holy Spirit
22:03from the first sentence
22:05of the prayer?
22:06Oh,
22:06everything is like
22:08getting hazy here.
22:10Let me make sure
22:10I'm not imagining things.
22:12I'd better read
22:13the original
22:14one more time.
22:16Quote,
22:16Father,
22:17let your Holy Spirit
22:18come upon us,
22:20hallowed be your name.
22:22Unquote.
22:22No,
22:23there it is.
22:24It's still there.
22:25Well,
22:26for starters,
22:27this proves
22:28that Luke
22:28is just an edited version
22:30of the Gospel
22:31of the Lord,
22:32not the other way around.
22:33That debate
22:34is now
22:35officially over.
22:37But,
22:37I don't want us
22:38to get lost
22:38in the weeds here,
22:39so let's stay on point.
22:41Let's find,
22:42fix,
22:42and finish.
22:43Why would the Judaizers
22:45who wrote Luke
22:46and Matthew
22:46have a problem
22:47with the Holy Spirit?
22:49Now,
22:50in answer,
22:50I asked a group
22:52of parishioners
22:53from the Marcionite Church
22:54for their thoughts
22:56on the deletion,
22:57and the consensus
22:58seems to be
22:59that there was
23:00a coordinated effort
23:01to,
23:02at the very least,
23:03minimize the role
23:05played by the Holy Spirit.
23:07You see,
23:08Father,
23:08let your Holy Spirit
23:10come upon us
23:11is a powerful statement.
23:13It opens the prayer.
23:15It reveals
23:16the name of our God,
23:18which,
23:18as stated in the prayer,
23:20is not something
23:21called a Yahweh.
23:23And,
23:23think about this,
23:25also reveals
23:26the mechanism
23:27by which
23:28we receive
23:29his gifts.
23:30Now,
23:31this causes us
23:32to reflect on how
23:33the Holy Spirit
23:34is around us,
23:36with us always.
23:38We merely need
23:39to ask our Father
23:40that it come upon us.
23:42Now,
23:43this is not
23:44inconsequential material
23:46or random words
23:48from a speak-and-spell.
23:50Somebody,
23:50or something,
23:52does not want you
23:53thinking about it
23:54or knowing it.
23:55It was deliberately
23:57removed
23:57removed for a reason.
23:59Now,
23:59think about this.
24:01So far,
24:02we've only dissected
24:03the removal
24:04of seven words
24:05and the replacement
24:06of another,
24:07out of a total
24:08of just 58 words.
24:10And we've barely
24:11scratched the surface
24:12on the changes
24:14made to the most
24:15important prayer
24:16in Christianity.
24:17Everything from bread
24:18to sin
24:19to debt
24:20has also been changed.
24:22Even the difference
24:23between saying
24:24in earth
24:25or on earth
24:27has been tinkered with.
24:28Now,
24:28we're running
24:29a little long on this,
24:30but if you're interested
24:31in a part two,
24:33let me know
24:33in the comments section.
24:35I'm going to leave you today
24:36with a couple of thoughts.
24:37Without the first Bible
24:39of 144 AD,
24:40we would have been
24:41totally unaware
24:43of the original words
24:45in the Lord's Prayer.
24:46Nobody would have been
24:47the wiser
24:48that it was edited.
24:49And it's not just
24:50the prayer.
24:51We're talking about
24:52dozens of key verses
24:54in the original
24:55ten epistles.
24:56Not to mention
24:57the entire gospel
24:58of the Lord
24:59being vandalized
25:00with four different
25:02Judaized versions
25:03of it being created
25:04out of whole cloth.
25:06But do you realize
25:07how razor-thin
25:08close it came
25:09to being erased
25:11from history?
25:12No, you don't.
25:13In 303 AD,
25:15Roman Emperor
25:16Diocletian
25:17declared war
25:18on all of Christianity,
25:19and he ordered
25:20every copy
25:21of the first Bible
25:22to be found
25:23and set to the torch.
25:25He ordered
25:26all churches
25:27toppled to the ground
25:28and bishops
25:29forced to renounce
25:30Jesus.
25:31And when the soldiers
25:32went door-to-door
25:33looking for scriptures
25:34to burn,
25:35they weren't interested
25:36in apocryphal
25:38Judaized nonsense.
25:39No,
25:40they were looking
25:41specifically
25:42for the gospel
25:43of the Lord.
25:44Now,
25:44a brief synopsis
25:46of the canon debate
25:47book sheds light.
25:48By the time
25:49of the Diocletianic
25:51persecution
25:52in 303,
25:53Roman authorities
25:54and their campaign
25:55to confiscate
25:56Christian property
25:57included the requirement
25:59that Christian books
26:00be handed in
26:02and burned.
26:03In the words
26:03of Eusebius,
26:04we saw with our
26:05very eyes
26:06the inspired
26:07and sacred
26:08scriptures
26:09committed to the flames
26:10in the marketplaces
26:11in response
26:12to the imperial letter
26:14ordering the destruction
26:15by fire
26:16of the scriptures.
26:18The requirement
26:19showed that
26:20the authorities
26:20knew Christians
26:21had an identifiable
26:23set of holy writings
26:24and they knew
26:25of their importance
26:26to the Christian communities.
26:28Heracles,
26:29governor of Bithynia
26:30and the chief promoter
26:32of the persecution,
26:33well,
26:33he knew the Christian Bible
26:35and had already
26:36attempted in two books
26:37against the Christians
26:39to prove the falsehood
26:41of sacred scripture
26:42by which
26:43was meant
26:43Christian
26:44sacred writings
26:46as the reference
26:47to Paul and Peter
26:48makes clear.
26:49And Christians
26:49themselves thought
26:51they had an identifiable
26:52set of scriptures
26:53for they immediately
26:55experienced
26:56a moral dilemma
26:57over giving up
26:58documents
26:59to the authorities,
27:00an issue
27:01that became
27:01the occasion
27:02for the Donatist schism.
27:04Now,
27:05Christians might
27:05hide writings,
27:07try to pass off
27:08apocryphal
27:09and heretical texts,
27:11or in some cases
27:12debate what to hand over
27:14and what not to,
27:16but for the most part,
27:17they knew
27:18what books
27:19the soldiers
27:20were looking for,
27:21unquote.
27:22Now,
27:22at this point,
27:23they thought
27:23they had finished
27:24the job
27:25and erased
27:26all traces
27:27of the first Bible
27:28because just 20 years
27:30later,
27:31thinking that there
27:31was now a clean slate,
27:33Emperor Constantine
27:35would produce
27:3550 of his own
27:37Judaized Bibles
27:38after the Council
27:39of Nicaea
27:40in 325 A.D.
27:43Interestingly,
27:44on a side note,
27:46he executed
27:46his wife
27:47and firstborn son
27:49less than a year
27:50after the Council
27:51ended,
27:52no doubt a display
27:53of his newfound
27:54love of Christianity.
27:56And in 382 A.D.,
27:58the Roman Catholic Church
27:59would adopt
28:00his personally
28:01approved scriptures
28:02as their own
28:04when they finally
28:04published
28:05their own version
28:06of a Bible.
28:07Now,
28:08does this added context
28:09help you understand
28:10the motivations
28:12behind editing
28:13prayers and scriptures?
28:15And one final note
28:16on the editing
28:16of prayers
28:17and editing the Bible.
28:19It's not a new phenomenon.
28:21In fact,
28:21it was so commonplace
28:23that even the Apostle Paul
28:25warned us
28:26about fake
28:27and perverted Gospels
28:28in Galatians 1,
28:304-6.
28:31Quote,
28:32I marvel
28:32that ye are
28:33so quickly changed
28:34from him
28:35that called you
28:36in the grace
28:37unto a different Gospel,
28:39which is not another.
28:40But there be some
28:41that trouble you
28:42and would pervert
28:43the Gospel of Christ.
28:45But though we
28:45or an angel
28:46should announce
28:47to you a Gospel
28:48contrary to what
28:49ye have received,
28:51let him be accursed.
28:53Unquote.
28:53Simply put,
28:54without the solid foundation
28:56of the first Bible
28:57of 144 A.D.,
28:59you're left
28:59with a collection
29:00of scribbled
29:01psychobabble
29:02and stapled
29:03together religions
29:04and set adrift
29:05on the spiritual
29:06dead sea
29:07without a paddle
29:08or rudder.
29:10And it was all
29:10by design.
29:11When Bergoglio
29:12changed the Lord's Prayer,
29:14he made us realize
29:15it wasn't the first time
29:17that the Bible
29:17had been altered.
29:19In this way,
29:20our Father
29:21used him
29:22to bring forth good.
29:24And now you know
29:26the rest of the story.
29:27May our Father's
29:29Holy Spirit
29:30find and guide you
29:31in these confusing times
29:32and lift the veil
29:33from your hearts
29:34and minds.
29:35I'm Darren Kalam
29:36and we'll see you next time
29:37on Presbyter Chat.
