A truck driver is in a critical condition with injuries to his head and pelvis after falling 20 metres (65.7 feet) from his truck after it crashed and almost tumbled off a busy freeway in Melbourne on Friday (May 17).

The truck driver, in his 30's, had swerved to avoid a car that veered in front of him causing the truck to roll and hit the side of the busy freeway, ejecting him onto the road below,

local media has reported.

Nearby workers ran to his aid.

"There was no signs of obvious trauma, no blood or anything like that, no bones protruding or anything like that so I was amazed. I saw the truck as well hanging upside down and dark and I couldn't believe he was still conscious," said a witness named Joe.

The truck is still dangling off the freeway but has been secured until cranes are brought in to remove it, local media said.
