A man has been charged with 44 counts of abuse to animals.

It’s exceptionally heart wrenching when animals get into the hands of the wrong people. 54-year-old Joseph C. Wenzel Jr, from Wyoming County, New York has been legally charged with animal abuse and filing a false report.

It all started when he called emergency operators, claiming that someone had left approximately 50 caged Chihuahuas at the bottom of his driveway. The dogs were stuffed into three crates. Initially Wenzel Jr. told police the Chihuahuas were fine and well-fed, but when officers arrived, they discovered one dog was deceased and the remaining canines were in very bad health.

An investigation revealed that Wenzel Jr.’s 77-year-old father was the one who dropped the animals off, claiming he could not properly care for them. His dad was charged with 44 counts of abandonment.

Last year, police and state dog wardens raided a home in Pennsylvania where they found some 200 Chihuahua dogs. A few of the animals were found dead and others were in critical condition.
The dogs were removed from the residence and taken to an emergency clinic in Harrisburg where they were slated to be nursed to full health by veterinarians.
