Western shoppers unsure about pressuring retailers about Bangladesh

A week after a building collapse in Bangladesh killed hundreds of garment workers --- some are wondering what responsibility western retailers who rely on the country's cheap labor have in ensuring safer working conditions.

At the moment, two companies --- Britain's Primark and Canadian retailer Joe Fresh have promised to compensate the families of victims.

Eric Dirnbach of the International Labor Rights Forum board praised the move . He also thinks it won't mean a dramatic rise in prices.

SOUNDBITE: Eric Dirnbach of the International Labor Rights Forum board saying:

"People in the U.S. are not going to notice higher prices. They might go up by a nickel or a dime. But I think what it does is sends a message that companies need to come forward and take some responsibility for the problems that they are creating by going to Bangladesh and finding the cheapest labor in the world to make their product."
