Thousands line London streets for Thatcher funeral

The streets lining up the route between St Clement Danes and St Paul's Cathedral were quiet on Wednesday as the former prime minister's coffin past by, drawn by 6 black horses on a gun carriage.

Baroness Thatcher was granted the honour of a ceremonial funeral at St Paul's Cathedral in the presence of the Queen, dignitaries from around the world and all of her successors as prime minister.

Thatcher was the country's first female prime minister and was given full military honours as the coffin bearing her body was brought to the cathedral in the procession.

At St Paul's, a congregation of more than 2,300 guests heard the Bishop of London Richard Chartres pay tribute to Lady Thatcher's "perseverance in struggle and courage".
