Looters roam Central African Republic capital

Just two days since a coup plunged the Central African Republic into chaos, and forces are struggling to restore order.

Looters and gunmen are roaming the streets of the capital, leaving buildings ransacked.

Managers at this telecoms company say that unless the thieving stops, economic activity will come to a standstill.

A unit of Seleka rebels are in charge of restoring order and getting guns off the streets.

General Arda Ahkoma warns looters that he will use force if they fail to stop.

He says armed civilians in military uniforms are taking advantage of the chaos by pretending to be rebel fighters.

There are also concerns that the rebels may be behind some of the looting as well.

Thousands of fighters swept into the capital on Sunday (March 24), accusing the government of breaking peace accords.

The turmoil has raised fears of a humanitarian crisis as supplies run low.
