The Swedish military apologizes for causing mink deaths.
Planes can wreak havoc on animals. Recently the Swedish military has publicly apologized for the deaths of over 500 minks after low-flying aircrafts scared the creatures so much that a murder spree ensued.
Apparently the adult minks were so terrified by the loud planes at low altitudes that they turned on their young, fatality biting them. A farmer in Southern Sweden made the gruesome discovery concerning the animals and contacted the Armed Forces demanding compensation.
The military issued an apology for the deaths and agreed to pay for the amount of the losses. The monetary details have not yet been released but the animals owners have sent in detailed invoices.
European minks are classified as endangered mammals. They have dark fur, slender, arched bodies and bushy tails. Known as wanderers, they are semi-aquatic creatures that contain a thick, water-repellent undercoat which serves as insulation to them while they are swimming.
Weighing approximately 1 to 2 pounds as adults, minks are highly sought after for their fur which is commonly used to create expensive clothing garments.
