Syrian refugees face third year of war in hungry exile

"Until I die, I will never forget what it's like to be a refugee," sings a Syrian man in a video released by the United Nations World Food Programme.
As the Syrian uprising reaches its two-year mark, the WFP and other agencies are struggling to house, feed and care for an estimated one million Syrian refugees who have spilled out from the conflict into neighbouring countries.
Here in northern Iraq, rows of tents house some 30,000 Syrians.
Camp residents are given food vouchers worth 31 US dollars per person per month.
Miriam is a refugee who uses the vouchers to shop for food.
She, her husband and their six children fled Syria six months ago.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) REFUGEE FROM RURAL QAMISHLY, MARIAM, SAYING:
"Now, I feel the same way Iraqi refugees must have felt when they fled and lost family members in the war. They came to us as refugees. Now I feel like they did."
