Syrian refugees say government forces targeted children

They are the youngest victims of two years of fighting in Syria, subject not just to the violence around them - but increasingly to the violence directed at them.

These refugees from Homs say they were prisoners in their homes.

SOUNDBITE: SYRIAN WOMAN FROM HOMS, SAYING (Arabic):

"We couldn't leave the house at all. We couldn't go out. The snipers would shoot right at us. They were on the roofs. We saw children just dropping dead.

The explanation for such behavior?"

SOUNDBITE: SAVE THE CHILDREN CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, JUSTIN FORSYTH, SAYING:

"What the children say to you is that some of the people doing these terrible things are saying 'Because you are the future'."
