Al-Azhar lays down conditions for Vatican dialogue

Al-Azhar, the highest authority of Sunni Islam in Cairo, believes that mending relations with the Vatican will depend on the future pope's position on the Muslim world. Al-Azhar severed dialogue with the Vatican after Pope Benedict XVI strongly called for protection of Christian minorities following a January 2011 suicide bombing at a church in Alexandria, Egypt's second city.
