Here are five destinations from Oscar nominated movies.

Many great movies are set in exotic or historically significant locations. Here are 5 travel ideas from this year's Oscar Nominated movies.

Number 5, Istanbul – The action packed James Bond flick, Skyfall features an opening scene showcasing the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. The Grand Bazaar is one of the world's most historic markets - spanning 60 streets and containing roughly 5,000 shops. In addition, Istanbul has numerous architectural gems, colorful neighborhoods, and vibrant culture.

Number 4, – The colorful fantasy film, Life of Pi features Pondicherry, India in the first act. Many of the scenes take place in the French Quarter creating a backdrop of both Indian culture and French colonial architecture. Beautiful villas and vibrant flowering plants are part of the everyday scenery. Between the 1700 and 1800s, France and Britain bickered over the ownership, until the French took it over until 1954.

Number 3 – The Impossible features Phuket, Thailand. Comprising 33 islands and covering 354 square miles, Phuket's west coast was nearly destroyed by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, causing billions of dollars in damage, displacing residents and killing a large number of people. Over the years, the area has gone through a revival. Funky shops, temples and Big Buddha viewing along with beach going are just a few things to do.

Number 2 – Many scenes from the French musical, Les Miserables take place in Gourdon, France. Referred to as one of the “most beautiful villages of Provence”, it offers panoramic views. Situated almost 2500 feet high on a rocky peak, Gourdon features medieval streets, museums, artisan shops and an ancient chateau. The best part is the surrounding gardens and the views of the Loup River and Mediterranean sea.

Number 1 – The American Western film, Django Unchained takes viewers through scenic sights in Mississippi and other neighboring areas. You can still visit many of the plantations from those times in that region.
