My Perspective – The KKR Culture
Henry Kravis: You know when we started the firm 35 years ago, it was very important that we wanted to make sure that within the firm everyone was able to participate in everything we did. The reason we did it was because we wanted to build a firm, we wanted people to help each other. We didn’t want people running around here and saying, “That’s my idea, that’s my idea,” and raising and patting themselves on the back and so forth. And that’s exactly the kind of firm that we have developed. The thing that I think that people learn over time about KKR is, one, we really believe in the values that we set for this firm and we hope that everyone will abide by those values and live in the culture that we set here, and I can’t emphasize how important that is for everyone who works at KKR. Your word is your bond. If you say something, to someone you’re speaking on behalf of KKR, whether you’ve been here 6 weeks or you’ve been here 30 years. It’s your obligation to stand behind what you say.
