U.S. Vice President Joe Biden met British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at Downing Street on Tuesday (February 5) during his visit to London.

Biden arrived in the British capital on Monday as part of his Europe tour which has taken him to Germany and France.

Both Clegg and Biden said they hoped the visit would strengthen the bilateral relationship.

"I am absolutely sure it would be something that could create a significant boost to prosperity and jobs on both sides of the Atlantic," Clegg said.

"The most open relationship we have with any nation is with Great Britain. We do have a lot to discuss because we both have a lot of stake in all the areas you mentioned," Biden said as the two men sat down for talks.

Biden was due to meet Prime Minister David Cameron later on Tuesday, amid warnings from the Obama administration that it does not want Britain to leave the European Union.
