U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hit the streets on inauguration Day

While the crowds may be smaller than his first term , there is no shortage of enthusiasm.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) JANINE JONES, PARADE ATTENDEE FROM SLIDELL, LOUISIANA, SAYING:

"It was a historical moment, it was awesome, I mean awesome. It's speechless, I can't say nothing."

Some came to witness history

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERI DORIS, PARADE ATTENDEE FROM WASHINGTON, D.C., SAYING:

"I mean, I might have not even have voted for him but to see our president, it is just an amazing opportunity as an American."

For others it was a history lesson

(SOUNDBITE) (English) TWELVE YEAR-OLD KILLIAN OQUENDO, PARADE ATTENDEE FROM MIAMI, FLORIDA SAYING ON SEEING OBAMA SAYING:

"Yeah it was incredible, my first time."

After watching the rest of the parade from a bullet-proof VIP viewing stand in front of the White House, the Obamas plan to head to the two inaugural balls - rather than the 10 that were held in 2009.
