Suicide bomb attack on Afghan spy agency

Security guards patrol the area around the Afghan spy agency in Kabul after a coordinated suicide attack here killed at least two people.

Kabul's police chief said six suicide bombers tried to storm the compound.

The first assailant detonated a large car bomb at the entrance, and five more men strapped with explosives were apparently shot dead as they tried to drive in.

More than 20 others were wounded in the blast.

(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) SHOPKEEPER INJURED IN BLAST, QAIS AHMAD:

"I was inside the shop when I heard noises and a huge bang. The explosion happened and all the glass and windows in my shop were destroyed and my head was wounded, as you can see."

The intelligence agency's chief narrowly survived a suicide bomber's assassination attempt last month.

That blast threatened to derail an already fragile peace process between the Afghan government and the Taliban, who said they were "unaware" of this latest attack.
