People of Gilgit Baltistan demand the opening of Skardu-Kargil road

Europe, Jan 07: Gultaru is a tiny hamlet in Skardu district of Gilgit Baltistan. It lacks basis facilities like education and healthcare. Most people here do not have jobs and they lead a miserable life. Winters make life tougher as the village gets cut-off from Skardu for about 8 months and people have no access to medical and other facilities. The villagers can get to Kargil, but the road has been blocked. The Pakistan administration is not bothered about the problems of the people. Opening of the Skardu-Kargil road will be beneficial for the locals. It will bring economic prosperity to the region by giving a boost to trade and commerce. However, the Pakistan government is indifferent to the needs of the people of Gilgit Baltistan. This has forced the residents of the area to intensify anti-Pakistan protests demanding the opening of the Skardu-Kargil road.
