Abe visits Fukushima nuclear plant

Japan's new prime minister Shinzo Abe toured the country's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant Saturday.
He spoke to employees and stressed his committment to post disaster recovery efforts.
The plant, badly damaged after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, has remained shuttered, with radioactive waste posing major challenges for cleanup operations.
Abe has called for safety checks on all of the country's 50 reactors to be completed in the next three years, but he remains undecided on the best energy mix for Japan.
Atomic energy supplied about 30 percent of Japan's needs before the Fukushima meltdown.
Public support for nuclear power has since plummeted.
