A graveyard in a town in Syria near the Turkish border.

It's called a martyrs cemetery.

Abdelhamid Haj Amoury comes to visit his family. He's lost three sons and two grandchildren in the Syrian revolution.

He returns to his workshop..a man going through the motions.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) A FATHER WHO LOST THREE SONS AND TWO GRANDSONS IN THE REVOLUTION, ABDELHAMID HAJ AMOURY, SAYING:

"Two of my sons used to work with me here. Now, I am alone. I have no one left but God. "

His wife wishes she could do more.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) AMOURY'S WIFE, SAYING:

"I wish if I could fight too, even if I got shot or whatever. I wish I could fight too, and what I feel I hope no one will feel because it is hard, because I feel like there are flames inside me."

They both hope that a better future comes from a conflict that has already cost some 44,000 lives.
