Arthur Sims & His Creole Roof Orchestra-How Do You Like It Blues

Very little is known about bandleader, clarinetist and saxophone player Arthur Sims. However, I was lucky to find some valuable information in: "Chicago Jazz, A Cultural History, 1904-1930", by William Howland Kenney, Oxford University Press, 1993. According to this highly interesting work, Sims was one of the first jazz band contractors at Chicago's Sunset Café and Midway Gardens. He insisted that Black band members should perform impeccably groomed,appearing before the public as entertainers. Accordingly, they became role models for many younger musicians. This excellent record was made in 1926. Besides leader Sims, personnel included: Arthur Allbright, banjo; Wallace Bishop, drums; Charles Harkness, tuba; Edward Inge, clarinet and alto saxophone; Preston Jackson, trombone; Gilbert Munday, baritone saxophone; Cassino Simpson, piano, as well as Edwin Swayzee and Bernie Young, cornet. The vocalist is unknown.
