Turkish Kurds, police clash at funeral

In Turkey, tensions between Kurds and local police are so high that even a funeral can spark clashes.

Police blocked the entrance to a cemetery where locals planned to hold a funeral for two Kurds killed during a protest.

When several mourners began throwing stones, police responded with tear gas and water cannons.

Those who managed to enter the cemetery also encountered smoke grenades.

Kurds make up a fifth of the population and their party, the PKK has pushed Ankara for an independent Kurdish state.

At least tw o people were wounded in the clashes.
